    Felon question

I have an old friend from my childhood that Im trying to reconnect with. Apparently, he has done a lot of stupid crap over the last 10 years. He hasn't told me but Im pretty sure hes a felon. Can I invite him shooting or is that illegal?

Might want to ask yourself if this is someone you want knowing about your firearms.

hes not a thief (that I know of) just a dumbass who tried a lot of drugs. He lives over an hour away and this is really an attempt to fellowship him to church again. I just dont have much to offer besides guns or talking politics which I dont imagine will be very useful on a stoner.

Edit: ya I just google searched and you guys are right. So I cant take him shooting. That sucks but alright. Ill have think of something else.

^This. Even if you trust him, you never know who he might mention them to.

I'm probably one if the last people around here who believes in condemning people for life who get caught doing stupid things, but maybe consider taking him shooting several years after discovering that he's a square guy again and not right out of the gate after being out of touch for so long.

He would need his 2A rights restored - otherwise, felony for him to touch or control a firearm, ammo, parts, magazines.

And, in CA law, felony to provide them to a felon.

Yeah, no doubt, but not everyone believes those laws are just or chooses to recognize them. OP sounds like he's on a humanitarian mission, and would do well to show some discretion (in my opinion) out of personal preservation, not because of the law but because other people can be unpredictable when they've been out of touch for so long.

Bows are really fun! I've got a recurve that takes a lot more skill and thought to use than any firearm I have that makes it pretty meditative.

If your friend is a felon and you want to stick with the letter of the law, there's nothing illegal about him owning/shooting a pellet gun as far as I know.

                          California and Federal prosecutors do.

You can buy pizza, watch sports, go to the movies, just be a friend, even try listening. Good luck.

Why not just outright ask him if he is a felon and go from there?
