Ammo buying to be digitally recorded

Apologize if this is in the wrong forum but I was just driving home with knx1070 am on and heard something about some legislation to digitally record ammo purchases, going away from paper records to pass info to LE.

Can anyone elaborate on what I heard with some more details? I didn't catch all the details on radio.

You sure the station wasn't KFUD?

Never understood why anyone would be interested in information about a consumable item.

Them: "Where's that 500 rounds you bought?"
Me: "I shot it all at the range yesterday."

I heard the same story yesterday on 1070 as well. Was not sure if it was LA County or just the City of... Also stated there was a pilot program already in place in the valley...

I don't buy preloaded factory ammo, go figure that one out, I also don't buy my components in a brick and mortar store either.

There is always legislation suggested - most bills (of whatever sort) rarely pass committee.

So just because something is proposed doesn't mean it will pass.

Even if it does - especially if it's at a city or even county level, you will just move the purchases from one side of the ledger to the other.

There are many forms of "digital" recording. There has been legislation in the past that would require electronic transmission of all ammunition purchases. That, along with the ammunition purchase permit that was proposed (and failed), sought to identify anyone purchasing amounts that might be of interest to law enforcement.

Fortunately, all bills so far in that vein have failed. We will, however, have to see what happens after the legislature returns next month.

The Los Angeles City Council tentatively approved a measure to require electronic tracking of ammunition sales, and considered a second gun control measure on Tuesday.

Buy out of state or order online, is cheaper anyway.
