Ridiculous gun laws in other countries

Every time I think we have it bad in CA, I think about how bad other people have it and it helps me to forget our asinine laws.

For example, one fellow in Australia tried to import a resin replica of the Pulse Rifle seen in Aliens, so he could display it on his wall. It looks like this:

Customs officials seized his prop and declared it a replica of a real gun. In order to own it, he had to:

    - request permission to import it
    - apply for a collector's license with a 28 day waiting period and $127 fee
    - install a gun safe where it would be secured and pay $100 to have police inspect said safe
    - alternatively, if he wanted to display his toy, it would have to be in a secured room with barred windows and deadlocks

All this for a toy gun.

What's really scary is that all it took was one madman for all Australians to lose their gun rights.

Other countries gun laws are moot, since they don't have the 2A like we do.

I wish I shared your optimism. We are one Supreme Court Justice away from the 2A being "reinterpreted" to mean whatever Mordor on the Potomac wants it to mean.

That's all it took, along with a strong PM, an opposition party
that was more anti than the government, a large number of anties, no 2A,
and no organisation with the power of the NRA.
I feel they are after your guns in the US, don't let it happen, be
always vigilant, it can happen so quick.

I find other countries to BE, frankly ridiculous. Australia, Canada, California, New Yawk, New Joisey, Taxachusetts - what do they ALL have in common?

They're repressed socialist satellites of 'mutha' England...

To be fair, I can see the thompson in it pretty clearly.

Oh what am I talking about "fair" that is bat**** insane.
So I was driving home from the range and I noticed that the scent of warm steel, burnt gunpowder and lukewarm coffee combined and smelled oddly of... Peanut butter?! Man, the Hoppe's is going to my head.

I didn't mean that our rights were safe. Just that the other countries don't have the 2A as a basic right in their laws so their governments are free to do pretty much as they like concerning guns.

look at our neighbor right to the North... Canada.

I had read about this first here but just now I found this information.

"the .25 and .32 caliber handguns are prohibited in Canada while larger and more powerful handguns are not.
                  the supposed reason...

.25 and .32 are supposedly only used on short barreled handguns like the derringer, or saturday-night-special.
These are supposedly all easily concealable and most have barrel lengths shorter than 2 1/2 inches. In Canada handguns with barrels shorter than 106mm (approx 4.1inch) are prohibited. Since most handguns in those calibers fall in that prohibited short barrel category, the Canadian govt just went and banned the whole group of small calibers altogether."

now on the surface this doesn't make sense but if you look at practically thinking about modern firearms,
you realize that a lot of the small caliber guns are inexpensive (somewhere in the 100 to 200 dollar range and most larger caliber guns are in the 400 to 600 dollar range.)

So this is in reality a ban on poor people having guns.

but what do I know maybe Canadians can buy High Points.

Just because they have it worse doesn't mean our situation is not bad.

I filed for a license to export some AR-15 receivers to someone in Australia just before their ban went into law. By the time the license was granted by the State Dept. the recipient had to jump through a lot of hoops to get permission to import it. Australia went nuts after the shooting in Tazmania.

Mexico has interesting gun laws, except criminals don't obey them, otherwise the place would be the dream of gun banners.

In the former Soviet republics in the 'stans, owning guns is illegal. Even owning ammunition like 9mm isn't allowed. Too many people complain about how bad they have it in CA, right after they walked into a gun store and bought a gun and started a 10-day wait. In other countries, you're not even allowed to own guns, and the ones that allow gun ownership require you to get a license and police approval before you can even buy a gun. After buying, they have strict restrictions on storage and use. More Americans have to go live in a craphole thirdworld country for a year to really appreciate how good we have it in the US.

Mexican gun laws are quite strange. There's only one legal gun shop in whole country. Shotguns must have at least a 25" barrel. Calibers about 380acp/38spl in handguns are generally not legal. I casually collect Mexican/Latin American firearms so I've looked in to the laws. It seems Argentina and Guatemala have ok gun laws compared to their neighbors.

I have a Mexican Trejo pistol. It is a conventional semi auto but many were selective fire! It seems at the time they were made full auto in 22lr was not regulated.

The original props were dolled up Thompsons. You can still see parts of the receiver, the pistol grip, trigger guard and barrel sticking out.
