    Adjustable Gas Blocks & Maintenance

Planning a (14") build w/2' flash, and would like to know ?

Do you need to disassemble & reset your Gas Block often, after range trips or just leave it. ?

If so, how do you reset to your favorite setting without shooting it ?

And do you stay with same ammo, or switch between brands, if switching brands, how do you deal with this scenario. Or just say screw it, it's close enough ?

What length gas system for a 14" is best for good follow ups w/adj gas block ?, as I will be buying a barrel separate, be going fairly light weight.

    Thanks...

You've come up with a bunch of reasons why a 16" barrel is the way to go....and it's not like you're going to save any length or weight with that 2' FH....

You could be right, but I could still use the answer for either 14" or 16" on GB scenario...

      Thanks

Once you set your gas block, you leave it unless there's a problem. So there's no maintenance, per se, although on some like mine, the carbon builds up to where you can't turn the screw anymore. I haven't tried it yet but you can loosen it by dousing it in some CLP overnight.
Typically, I tune it to my weakest ammo for bolt lock 5 times in a row. Then open it a 1/4" turn, just for a buffer zone. That way, factory or hotter have no issues.

I built a 14.5" Daniel Defense carbine length barrel onto an Anderson lightweight upper sans forward assist and dust cover. It's super light weight. I added an adjustable gas block in aluminum and a UTG superslim 7" freefloat rail for $75.

It was tuned using my underloaded .223's with 22.5 grain Varget. That assures all the weaker Russian stuff will fire. It's a super smooth shooter now, far less recoil than my 16" midlength with a standard gas block. It's alomost .22LR like in recoil and it has very fast follow up shots due to far less movement. I pinned on a BRT covert compensator, that reduced recoil and the noise.
