I am planning on building an AR10 in the near future, and was wondering what type of barrel to use - standard or heavy? I don't shoot with bi-pods, so would a heavy barrel be ok to shoulder? Any thoughts or experience would help. Also, if anybody has any suggestions on which manufacturer would suit my needs would also be of help. Thanks

AR10 with a heavy barrel question

Depends on barrel length. If it is a pinned 14.5" it won't be as big a deal. Stick a 20" HBAR out there and it starts feeling a bit weighty.
But in either case, I doubt you are going to be running around with the thing shouldered long enough to really make a big deal. I can shoulder a 20" SS medium contour .223 barrel for quite a while before it becomes a bother at all. As long as you are using good body mechanics it isn't difficult to keep the heaviest of rifles at the ready for a while.
Oh, and lift weights. Big ones.Originally posted by kcbrownI'm most famous for my positive mental attitude.

OP, what are you planning on doing with the rifle? This would allow people to give more tailored advice to your specific situation.Comment
