M4's being removed from Border Patrol

So the BP agents are unable to inspect their own weapons for issues? Why? Should be qualifying on a regular basis with their assigned weapon.

stating: "CBP's Offices of Border Patrol and Training and Development are jointly inspecting the serviceability of M4 carbines throughout Border Patrol Sectors nationwide. Some of (the) inspected M4 carbines were deemed unserviceable and removed from inventory to alleviate safety concerns. Inspections will continue to ensure the unserviceable M4 carbines are repaired or replaced for reintroduction into the field.

Wow how about not sending weapons to BLM, FDA, Iraq, Ukraine, and Syria and send them to BP. Removing a weapon for inspection because of a firing pin give me a break. Are there any charities where we can donate AR parts?

It's a ploy so they can ditch their M-4 Carbines and replace them with FNH SCAR-H.

              Thoughts:

1.) Have a gun buyback program to recover the weapons from Fast & Furious
2.) Purchase replacement rifles from the Cartel. With all of that money, they may have quality firearms.
3.) I've ran out of smart @$$ ideas.

              This is pretty stupid.

Setting aside the argument of overall militarization, I think the Border Patrol should be well armed. Especially since they are pretty spread out and maybe they aren't paired up?

Afraid of the illegals snatching their weapons? Just throwing it out there. The border patrol is pretty castrated.

At least they still have their P2000 side arms.

So instead of rifles, are they just going to issue rape whistles?

Have a few BP friends the rumor seems to be DHS thinks that BP would have less incidents of violence toward BP Agents if they engaged hostile targets at longer distances. The other rumor is that when agents do engage hostiles there seems to be a lot of shots fired and very few or no one hit, which the higher ups think gives BP bad press.

Sounds like maybe they will start issuing BP agents lever action rifles again

This whole thing smacks of politics to shut up the BP whistle blowers. IMO.
Did the BP run out of shotguns too? It's not like they are gearing up with slingshots.
I really don't see a problem with having to share a rifle.
If they really want to get some new M4s, why don't they do a deal with one of the cartels? I hear they have some good modern ex-U.S. mil gear.

Maybe this is an argument in support of the 2A... BP agents should be able to supplement their loadout with privately owned "civilian weapons" if their duty issued weapons are in short supply..
