    Bullet button Question

Hello I was reviewing the FAQ calguns wiki on this but I couldn't find it specifically.

Anyways my question is when purchasing an out of state firearm, does the bullet button need to be installed prior to shipping to FFL? Or can the FFL here receiving the firearm install it? Or can I just install it after receiving the firearm?

I believe it has to be installed prior to entering the state, as without it, it would be an assault rifle and you would be importing.

I would always have the bb installed before entering california. Anything after that is asking for trouble.
The laws that forbid the carrying of arms are laws of such a nature. They disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes.... Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man." - Thomas Jefferson (quoting 18th century criminologist Cesare Beccaria)"

If your receiving FFL has an assault weapons permit they can put it on before transferring it to you. If not the seller needs it put one on before shipment.

Have the upper shipped to you and the lower to your FFL. No bullet button needed then since the lower by itself is not a semi-auto centerfire rifle. Just be sure to install a bullet button before attaching the upper.

Always check with your receiving ffl. Some will accept with mag release removed. Some will require bullet button.

In regards to disassembling the firearm and having it shipped to two different locations (CA FFL dealer & you)...

... the firearm receiver, part that is serial numbered, needs to be transferred through a CA FFL dealer.

On some firearms (AR10, AR15, etc), the lower receiver is the firearm and the upper receiver is just a part.
On other firearms (ACR, ARX, FAL, SCAR, HK91, etc), the upper receiver is the firearm and the lower receiver is just a part.

So, make sure the correct receiver gets sent to the CA FFL dealer.

CA laws require it to be CA legal prior to being imported into CA, unless the CA FFL dealer has a valid assault weapons permit.
