I plan on taking a RV trip to Alaska next year and would like to know what kind of paperwork I need on my guns to get the permits to travel through Canada.

RCMP Firearm Users Visiting Canada

All firearms and ammunition must be declared.
There's a form you fill out and a fee to pay.

Canada classifies firearms into three categories.
1. Non-restricted
2. Restricted
3. Prohibited

Non-restricted = non-semi-auto shotgun/rifle with a barrel length greater than 18.5".
Restricted = handgun with a barrel length greater than 4.1", semi-auto shotgun/rifle with a barrel length between 18"-18.5", a rifle/shotgun with an overall length less than 26" (measure with the firearm in the shortest possible firing position), and any make/model listed firearm.
Prohibited = handgun with a barrel length less than 4", handguns in .25 caliber & .32 caliber, rifle/shotgun with barrel length less than 18", and machineguns.

You can only import...
... non-restricted firearm (can be declared at the border, but they want you to come prepared with paperwork already filed out)
... restricted firearm (need authorization number from the RCMP, therefore need prior approval before arriving at the border).
... a maximum of 5000 total rounds of ammo.

If you want to borrow a firearm while you are in Canada, there's another form to fill out and a fee to pay.

Canada also has a magazine ban.
You can not legally import/possess handgun magazines that hold more than 10 rounds.
You can not legally import/possess rifle & shotgun magazines that hold more than 5 rounds.

Its been a while, but this is what i used to do.

I know its a temptation, but don't get caught trying to bring it across the border.

I forgot to add they used to take( you lose it) your vehicle and everything you are carrying and you get arrested.
