So you shoot what the military shoots?

Guess again! Start throwing away all that wanna be XM193 and M855 junk

    Fresh off the range!

YUP! That's right! WCC brass. Not even NATO stamped! (Well one of them)

    Left - 5.56
    Right - 9mm

Found out the military shoots more Winchester brand ammo than anything else. Picked these up just after M4/M9 quals. Mostly Frang/FMJ stuff. Caught me by surprise. I always bought Federal was the only supplier of the US military. Guess Winchester and LC both supply of US military.

Found this interesting figured I'd share since many like my self think Federal = Military Grade Ammo. Guess Winchester is technically mil spec as well.

Winchester ammunition has been supplying ball to the military since at least WW1. It is owned by Olin Corp; hasn't been owned by Winchester since a long time ago.

      Olin bought Winchester in 1931.

I know my old mobile crew would acquire whatever ammo they want. Granted, special organizations with less than a dozen people aren't quite the same as say, the Army.

Hell, back in the 90's we were getting WWB packed in green ammo tins for both 7.62 NATO and 9mm NATO.

The military shoots both Federal M193 and Winchester Q3131. They're the same load.

Olin/WCC has been operating the Lake City Army Ammunition Plant since 1985.

Thats the newest you got? I think I have some LC 12 or 13 brass out in the garage on my reloading bench. Also as you stated, the military uses Lake City as well, as well as a few other "Brands" depending on the Ammo type to include some batches of South Korean ammo made under contract for the US.

ATK (Alliant Techsystems) currently has the .gov contract to run Lake City, and while the last few batches of 9mm we used while I was still on active duty were WCC headstamped, We also got mixed lots of other headstamps. 5.56 we has majority LC, 7.62 Nato was all over the place from PMJ, LC, WCC. When I was in Iraq in 06 and again in 07-08 the .50 cal API/APIT was all WW2 or post war dated LC & TW headstamps.

DOD should move to Wolf. Save tons of money and also get in tons of malf clearance practice.
