    face to face transfer

Okay, I've tried search, but can't seem to find the exact answer I'm looking for (believe me, searching "FFL" and "face to face" gets you a LOT of hits in the wrong direction.) So, here it goes...

If you do a face-to-face transfer with someone at a registered FFL location, do you give the person the money and then the FFL holds the gun for 10 days. Then you go back 10 days later to pick it up?

The reason I'm asking is if I drive 3 hours to meet someone for a face-to-face, then I have to do drive back again in 10 days to pick the gun up, it kinda sucks. I guess with gas prices these days (and the fact that I drive an FJ) it would be cheaper just to have it shipped to a local FFL, huh?

Well, still wanted to be sure about the 10 days thing.

Thanks for any help on this.

Yes, you are correct. You have to wait 10 days to pick it up. Sucks!

What you are describing is actually a private party transfer. If it is a handgun, make sure it is on the "list" if you want to ship it to an ffl. Adding that step changes it from a private party transfer to an FFL transfer and both the 1 handgun in 30 days and the "list" come into play.
