So forgive me if this is a stupid question..

Is it legal to import a frame in to California? Say I wanted a Les Baer or Caspian frame for a 1911 of some sort, and wanted to 'roll my own' as a learning experience, is this possible? Or should I just get a milspec springer and sell off the unused parts?

    Thanks in advance,

There are legal ways to transfer off-safelist guns, but you need to buy one from LE, somebody who is moving here with the gun you want (after they register it with the doj), or intra-familiar transfer from out-of-state parents.

using an approved frame and then selling off the parts is easier though.

Pretty much that leaves me in the 'modify a milspec' camp.

          Thanks for the swift responses.

DOJ stance is that you can't (spring '06 memo about T/C pistols).

It appears that that is not actually the law, however. Further analysis is warranted.

We'll see what gives - may be moot if we take the whole Roster down.
