He was probably an idiot before adding alcohol to the mix. Stupid is , stupid does. RIP to the slain deputy but also glad the suspect Deputy didn't involve any non LEO in this.

Exactly. The "oh no, alcohol is so evil that it makes people shoot eachother" bit is dumb. Alcohol is a problem for people who don't have the self control to either not do crap like that when they're hammered, or not get that hammered in the first place. I find it difficult to believe that this guy made it to the age of 27 without ever becoming aware that while drunk he's "that guy" who ruins everything for everyone around him meaning...

a: If he really was the type of guy to cause problems like that just because he was drunk, odds are he would have attempted to murder the other deputy even if a firearm hadn't been involved(guns don't kill people, people kill people).

          or

b: The guy had a screw loose and would have done something regardless of alcohol being involved, as alcohol does not just flip a random switch in the brain of a normal person and turn them into a murder. Now getting aggressive and starting fights... yes, but that's not exactly the same as pulling out a gun and shooting someone because they made you mad at the end of your night at the bar.

Assuming the article is correct, this isn't the typical "got drunk and decided to shoot trap off the porch while forgetting the rules of safety" sort of negligence. Drawing a firearm and firing multiple shots at someone who was apparently attempting to flee, is flatout murder. That's not a lapse in judgement, it's not a "the booze made me do it", and pretending that everything would have been OK if there wasn't a firearm involved while the murderer was drunk is just silly.
