Well i went to an indoor shooting range today and I forgot to take out some tula rounds in my magazine and I shot them. When I shot them I didnt see any sparks, i didnt get ricochets, the range didnt explode etc. So what gives with this rule?

Why dont indoor ranges allow steel case/russian ammo?

IIRC they have a bimetal jacket and the steel can cause damage to the range.
That said, my local indoor range allows it.Originally posted by fighterpilot562Damn it man! We could have got drunk, called a taxi and drop by Kest house with a mega phone. -
That and they don't want to be bothered to check if it's just the case that attracts a magnet, or the projectile itself. It's easier to just ban all of it since they sell ammo anyway and won't have to worry as much about staff letting some slip through(assuming they bother to check).Comment

Depends on the backstop and what the range wants to do. The range I worked at allowed it.NRA Certified Pistol, Rifle, Shotgun and Metallic Cartridge Reloading Instructor

I think all of you are wrong.
In my experience with indoor ranges.... those greedy 'a hats' will sweep up ALL of your brass before you have a chance to pick it up.
They STEAL your brass to reload and sell to other customers at a HUGE mark up. Since steel case is not reloadable, they want you to GIVE THEM brass case ammo, or spend way to much on their crap reloads with brass they stole from previous customers.
That is my HONEST observation. I've seen it first hand...

Ahh ok. I feel its kinda dickish of them since i gotta use brass even though the tula stuff is so much cheaper. And its not like steel cased ammo is steel core. It aint armor piercing.Wise men seldom speak. - ArcusComment

Oh that's definitely a part of it, but it's not necessarily the only reason. Afterall, the steel cases can be sorted out with a magnet, and those same ranges aren't necessarily banning aluminum cases.I think all of you are wrong.

Cheap Wolf and some others handgun ammo is steel or alu cased but aint no steel in the bullet......
And they KNOW THAT....
The only reason they dont allow it, is they cant steal your brass and reload it.
It happened to me once at a local indoor range. I reload. I wanted to keep my brass.... and that A hat bumping the broom into my feet to get the brass AS I WAS SHOOTING IT...... was plenty reason to never EVER go back.Comment

I just know that those ranges that don't allow steel case pistol ammo are losing my money.Originally posted by thrillhouse700I have to wait until all the info is in before I make a statement. Obviously the family dogs had it coming.... other than that, waiting on more info.Comment

The only indoor range I've shot at has been Bass Pro in Rancho. They have never given me grief about picking up my own brass.I think all of you are wrong.
