Yea, there was a CZ I was interested in on Gunbroker. But the seller refused to do business with anyone from what he termed as "Kalifornia". He's from Chicago.
    Yea, think about that.

It's the seller that pays fees, not the buyer. So if the gun you win never arrives, nothing lost but time. Try and make sure of condition. I do that mainly by checking the sellers feedback.

A good way to get the guns you want. Find a FFL that communicates well and is cheap. I found one in the sac. area that only charges $35, will accept SSE guns and will do the SSE conversion for 1911's.

I have only bought one weapon online, a pistol from BudsGunShop and the transaction was smooth.

I have found with the new requirement for FFLs to collect sales tax on top of their higher mail-order fees, that the cost savings have been pretty much wiped out. Unless your LGS really jacks up their prices that is or you want an SSE pistol.

Grab a gun and gun genie are what I have used with positive results. My FFL doesn't mind because its less work for them. I have heard Buds is GTG as well.

I had similar story. The seller wont sell me a German Sig and told me not bid.

ironic coming from chicago, but this is common on Gunbroker. some sellers simply see california as a big mess and don't want to be involved with sales to those that reside here. on the other hand, there are sellers that will work with you any way they can. along with sellers that post 'no sales to california', there are sellers that advertise being california friendly. it's a slice of life.

Has anyone here tried importing anything exotic from out of state? Like one of those centurion uzi clones or a wasr that doesn't cost 699?

if I were you I'd look into two things...

                        1) Davidsons (also known as gallery of guns.) they are a very large firearms wholesaler and can get almost whatever you want to wherever you need it. most, if not all, of the products are new but the prices are good.

                        2) a home based FFL.
it is like going over friends house, picking what you like/ ordering whatever you like & picking it up in 10 days.
No waiting in line and no hassles just make an appointment & go get what you want.
there's a great one in the San Jose area, that's a vendor here on Calguns is well ( San Jose gun trader ).

but you might be able to use a Davidsons representative to help find one in your area. just call and ask one of the representatives for FFL s in your area that will receive your firearms for you and listen for a store that you've never heard of, possibly located in a residential area, yet zoned for commercial.

I'll echo what others have said before, OP.

Buy from a reputable company over a guy on Gun Broker if possible.
Do your research. If a deal sounds too good to be true, it is.
Contact your LGS and be sure you are clear on their policy regarding FFL to FFL transfers.

I've bought online from Impact Guns, Bud's Guns, and individuals on Gunauction.com with great results. If you look at Gunauction.com be sure to check out the stuff on sale from Lock Stock and Barrel Investments. They are a LGS in Simi Valley and a lot of their handguns can be sold as PPTs if that option is more convenient for you.

                          Good hunting!
