It's considered a Destructive Device and requires a CA DOJ Dangerous Weapons Permit for a DD in order to legally own/possess it in CA.
The ammo is also considered a Destructive Device and illegal to import/make/possess in CA, except for FFL/SOT and Gov/Mil/LE agencies.
