This was posted in response to my comment on a friend's Facebook page regarding doctors asking about guns in the home. My friend is a pediatrician. It is from her son:
Bruce, for the sake of being civil, and also because im not sure of your relationship to my mom, understand that I've toned my rhetoric waaaayyyy down when I am usually not one to try and maintain political correctness (especially regarding an issue I am so passionate about).
Unlike my mom I DO NOT support your right to own a gun. I am in favor of a long term civilian draw down program with lots of incentives for getting rid of your guns.
And unlike my mom I will tell you that I can not stand sharing my country with the likes of the NRA or anybody who supports them.
I think that guns are the most vile and inherently destructive force ever created by man. That weapon you call a tool for hunting or a measure of self defense has one purpose only; to take life away.
I think that anybody who owns a gun is a fool and unfortunately statistic prove that you'll kill yourself or a family member with it a million times over before you use it to defend yourself.
Nobody NEEDS a gun for protection. Its an illusion and certainly way more dangerous than not owning a gun... and all for what? Because it makes you feel better? Thats the definition of foolishness.
And the justification for armed militias in the face of a corrupt government is no longer valid, considering the development of history since our revolutionary war.
And teaching gun safety in school seems asinine. Guns are NOT safe and the safest way to handle them is to not handle them at all. Infact get them as far away as possible imo.
And besides school is for science english history math art and P.E... not guns or gun safety.

You are entitled to your opinion, however foolish I believe it to be. Many other people hold the same opinion. Where I work, they're referred to as victims. It's my country also. I have no problem with sharing it with intolerant people like yourself. Perhaps some gun safety taught in school might just save a life.
RESPONSE:
Why should I be tolerant of the ignorance towards "gun safety" when so many innocent people die?
People should live happy long lives and not have to worry about an accident or some nut shooting up a public place.
Dont even get me started on the foolishness behind vigilantism. How about letting trained professionals with accountability take care of our protection for the sake of avoiding these monthly tragedies of countless innocent people having their life taken away.
MY REPLY:
Yes people should live long and happy lives, but evil exists in this world. If you believe the police exist to protect you, you are wrong. The police can not protect you. The police exist to enforce the law and that does not happen until after the fact. Warren v. D.C. says that the police do not have to protect you or anyone else. You are responsible for your own protection. Whether it is with a 12 gauge or a 9 iron it is up to you. The fact is, I won't change your mind, and you won't change mine, so continuing this argument on your mother's FB page is pointless.
