    stolen shotgun

    Greetings. First post here, so be gentle

    My elderly father was an avid hunter back in the day. When I visited him recently in Oregon, he presented me with his very nice shotgun as a gift. This last Friday, my home in Goleta (near Santa Barbara) was burglarized, and the shotgun stolen. Details below:

    Belgium Browning Pigeon Grade superposed 12 Gauge
    Serial number: 54106S6

    Was in a brown travel case with an extra set of barrels when stolen

    Theft was promptly reported to sheriff. Looks like Im out of luck with respect to coverage on home owners policy.

    On the off chance someone has any knowledge of the gun's whereabouts I would appreciate a reply, and if I should be posting this somehwere else on the forum, please let me know.

    Thanks everyone

          Welcome to CalGuns...so what kind of Safe was it in?
          TURNING and turning in the widening gyre
          The falcon cannot hear the falconer;
          Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;
          Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world,
          The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere
          The ceremony of innocence is drowned;

            Sorry to hear it, but, why doesn't your homeowners insurance cover personal property?

            Also, based solely on your description of the transaction the shotgun should have been transferred through a CA FFL.

              I agree. Let's kick OP in the nuts after his shotgun was stolen.

                  I hope you transfered that shotgun through an FFL or you may find yourself charged.

                    Agreed.
                    While talking to police about your stolen shotgun don't say anything about how or when you acquired it. Not necessary.

                      Quite a bit of insurance companies require a separate rider to cover guns.

                        More than likely the shotgun is worth less than the deductible required from the loss. $2000 deductible and Shotgun is worth $1200

                          welcome nooby, that's a shame.

                          do you or your father belong to the N.R.A. they have an insurance policy for the members guns that is automatically started when you join.
                          if you do I would suggest contacting them and truthfully explaining the situation...maybe you're covered.

                          if not it's a great time to join the NRA.
                          & maybe get your dad a gift of membership.
