I've been getting a pretty good collection now. Being in California, the humidity in the Central Valley is pretty low. I do worry about the wi ter months when it's foggy. Do those Golden rods that increase the temp in your safe work really well? My safe is inside the house.

Yes they work. They're cheap too.

I can grab mine without getting burnt. It should just be warm to the touch.
EDIT: just checked the temperature and it's around 95f.Last edited by JDay; 10-17-2014, 12:35 PM.Oppressors can tyrannize only when they achieve a standing army, an enslaved press, and a disarmed populace. -- James Madison

Have a couple in my vault.
I also have a remote weather station. They usually keep it about a degree warmer and 2-5% less humidArtist formally known as CEO of Tracy Rifle and PistolComment

THIS
Add a box of desiccant...one that has some type of meter that tells when it needs to be refreshed. And add a humidity meter...also relatively cheap...so you can tell what is going on in your safe. And you should be good to go."Kestryll I wanna lick your doughnut."

I've been using them for >5 years, resolved an issue I had in both safes with speckles of rust on milsurps that I shoot with corrosive primered ammo. Kind of like disclosing tablets for your teeth, it did help me find all the weird places residue gets to. I prefer not seeing it!Comment

Another option is to hang a 15 watt light bulb near the bottom of your safe and leave it on all the time. Keeps the the temperature higher than the air outside the safe just like a goldenrod, and also provides light when you are trying to find something in your safe.__________________
