I am taking a rifle class at front sight next month and was wondering if anyone had recommendations for knee pads and, if anyone has taken the practical rifle course, will I actually need elbow pads??? Thanks!

knee pads for rifle class

From their website:
"Knee and elbow pads are recommended for all long gun (shotgun, rifle, submachine gun, M-16, etc.) courses and advanced handgun courses".
I like these:
BlackHawk Neoprene for elbow and Knee Pads. for example:
FWIW, the pads with the hard plastic (injection molded) type caps are slippery on smooth surfaces like cement and uncovered flooring. -
Awesome pads.
Elbow pads will make a difference during the prone drills. If you want to DG the class bring all the extra gear you can carry.Comment

Rifle 1 is hard pack dirt really but rifle 2 is thick gravel.
Knee pads yes. Elbow pads are personal preference. It's just more uncomfortable crap for me. Knee pads are nice as you need to drop prone fast to DG.
In a real fight you likely won't use any pads so why have your elbows used to a higher position. Knees won't affect your platform and you are actually dropping on them repeatedly in a class.

5.11 does. Probably others too. Not sure if they are that great for dropping down though. I haven't used them. I have seen the pads and they are thin. Would likely suit well for comfort if just being on your knees. Running drills though you lean back and drop rapidly to you knees. Fall forward and catch yourself with your support hand and let yourself down. That in my opinion is why knee pads are needed and particularly ones that will help with the repeated dropping of all your body weight on them.

i run these and LOVE them. Fit well, very minimal so its not in the way and not to hot.
ETA the knee inserts are ok, they are thin neoprene so it helps on dirt if there aren't any rocks, but break a knee cap like i did once and you will wear hard caps when you are doing any drill where you need to go to a knee quickly.primer, powder, projecile, press, load, fire repeat!Comment

Used these at the last class I attended. More expensive than other options out there, but they are high quality. They are low profile enough to wear under your pants, very light weight, and stay where you put them without riding up or sliding down.
They saved my knees from the beating they would have taken so I consider it money well spent.Comment

You might also consider skater's knee and elbow protectors. They do ordinarily have the rigid caps, so the 'slippery' comment may apply.ARCHIVED Calguns Foundation Wiki here: http://web.archive.org/web/201908310...itle=Main_Page
Frozen in 2015, it is falling out of date and I can no longer edit the content. But much of it is still good!Comment

Don't buy airsoft ones.
One of my buddies has tried painters knee pads and airsoft ones. They both broke on him in the middle of a competition.Comment
