Considering a Mossberg Chainsaw for HD

I'm considering buying a Mossberg Chainsaw for HD use. You know, the weird looking Mossberg pistol grip only shotgun with a chainsaw handle to pump and grip to control muzzle rise. I've read the online reviews and almost everyone universally derides this design. I have read a few positive reviews from those who own it.

The main complaint is that a pistol grip shotgun is inaccurate but am planning to put a light/laser combo on it.

Would like some feedback from anyone who has actually shot one and just a broader set of opinions on this gun.

    Thanks.

Tried to like my pistol grip Mossberg, but it was so horrible to shoot and impossible to aim. I put a combo pistol grip, adjustable AR style shoulder stock and love it now.

Just get the 500. I have shot both. Get the pistol grip if you want, but the chainsaw is a pain in the behind to use in a stressful situation.

Guess my question is, if you had put a laser on it for example to aim, would it have made a difference for you?

No a laser would be hard to use in a home defense situation with this set up. IMO

I feel like if I felt the need to use something with a chainsaw grip for HD, it'd be an actual chainsaw. I don't see how a shotgun with a chainsaw foregrip would have any benefits over a shotgun with a normal foregrip.

That chainsaw handles looks stupid. I've shot a Remington folder with a pistol grip before. Not good for precise slug shots, but I could hit steel plates with birdshot reasonably easily at short range by just sorta sighting over the barrel.

The chainsaw is mostly a gimmick device. It looks hollywood-esque and is largely viewed as a toy for good reason.

However I do see some benefit for those with gimp limbs because it would naturally be easy(er) to operate for those who couldn't shoulder a firearm normally. Though in that situation I imagine a 12 gauge would be a poor choice.

But it is your money and your safety on the line. Who are we to school you on it? If you feel comfortable with the setup work it. I know I don't.
So I was driving home from the range and I noticed that the scent of warm steel, burnt gunpowder and lukewarm coffee combined and smelled oddly of... Peanut butter?! Man, the Hoppe's is going to my head.

A dumb, gimmicky gun. Even pistol grips on a shotgun are a bad idea. Just get your basic 500 or 590 and add Surefire's best light.

Dude, don't. Go and get a Big 5 special. $300 and you get an 18" barrel for HD and a 24" (IIRC) barrel for hunting. All that other crap is for the zombie slayers who spend all day in front of a computer or xbox playing CoD.

                        No it would not.

The main flaw in the chainsaw design is that it severely limits how you can use and manipulate it.

Pistol grip design does not allow you to butt stroke someone instead of shooting them and is inherently inaccurate. Remember a shotgun blast at 30 feet is only 4-6 inches wide.

The chainsaw front grip forces you to hold the shotgun in a low position. No ability to aim there.

Can't imagine what kind of gun case they require if you wanted to take it out and practice.

If you are going to get a shotgun for HD. Get a versatile and useable one.

I bought the Mossy combo 500. It comes with both barrels and includes a pistol grip.

I keep the 18" on it for HD and use the 24" for clays and upland hunting.

All for $340 if I remember correctly.

I haven't used my pistol grip, but I have shot others with it and find it extremely uncomfortable.

                          Keep it simple.

I own 2 mav 88s that dont have shoulder stocks, one has a Shockwave technologies Raptor grip, the other a Knoxx breachers grip.

Ive been unable to find a range that will even let me shoot one for months so I have no idea which I like more or if I like either of them lol. Probably not something you think about when youre buying one but its a real PITA once youve already paid for it and then find you cant use it anywhere

Ok, thanks guys, all good points and I trust the consensus here. Just going to get a 500 and put a Surefire light on it and call it a day.
