Someone explain weird (to me anyway) range rule

Went to lax range and wanted to rent a gun but was told I needed either to have a party of two or have my own gun with me in order to rent a gun. I thought this was weird and the face one of the other guys working at the range was making almost made me think the guy I was talking to was just being a jerk and didn't want to help me.....but I was looking at a website for another local range and they has the same rule. So can someone explain this rule. Seems like if someone wants to come in and rent a gun to try it before buying they shouldn't need to bring a friend....

You can thank the good ol suicide renters for that rule.

They don't want you to take the easy way out on one of their range rentals. Good amount of gun range suicides in the last few years. Sadly the rule is justified.

You are unlikely to kill yourself on their range if you own your own gun. You are also unlikely to kill yourself at the range if you have another person with you.

Sad but necessary.

Suicide is the reason for that rule. Happened at riverside magnum a few years back, but also that rule has failrd. Heard someone brought a buddy, rented a gun together, then offed himself in the lane with his buddy present with him.

I wonder why some non gunowners would choose this extremely horrible way to die ?
There have been more than a few instances where the attempted suicide ended up destroying jawbones and causing damage,but not enough to terminate the life .

I wonder if the voter registration has any correlation on who chooses this method?

I have heard of and known of shooters who committed suicidice by rifle,pistol and shotgun .

Not one used a gun range to do so however .

Please stop insinuating suicidal people are democrats ja308. Thats just uncalled for. To most people a shot to the head would seem like a painless way to die.

I believe this rule is universal. But this is why i dislike indoor ranges. I dont want to be around when a mentally ill person decides to do a post birth abortion.

as a new shooter and non suicidal person the thought never crossed my mind. Thanks for clearing the rule up for me
