    IMO...
Chinese SKS in aftermarket stock = $280-340 depending on condition.

    They're good beater rifles.

I didn't even pay attention. I don't remember, honestly I didn't even see the gun before that. I figured I knew what I was getting. he has several guns so he knows a thing or two.

I guess. like I said this isnt his first gun. I should have looked at it before committing to buying it. Ill fix it back up return it back to what it should look like and go from there.

Once a cop always a cop?

everyone else was letting him be, while your question is designed to ask him did he break the law and to admit to it on a public website.

Matt if you did not do this deal at a gun shop please do not now nor ever admit to it on this site or any other.

Do not feel bad what you paid, A SKS is a wonderful rifle that is better than most guns costing twice as much. just keep it FOREVER.

Lose that aftermarket stock. Should be easy to find a Chinese wood.
Nice rifle. $400 aint bad. Not a score though.

a little high; but what's $40 when overall at least they're good rifles.
(re: be worse to have bought a rifle no one likes... but people like their SKSs)

Either your friend does not know diddly squat about guns or is trying to mislead you. Either way you need to pay more attention because the info he gives is unreliable.

Are you happy with the rifle? If so, don't worry about paying 400 for it...its not a rip off and if its a good shooter then you did ok. Just ask lots of questions next time before you buy.

They are 250 right now. Plus shipping. I would say not a good buy. If you need the wood I might be able to get you a stock I'd have to ask my buddy who might be selling his stock.

I saw a Russian SKS go for $475 on a local dealer's recently website so it's not that bad of a deal for you.

I see classicarms has Chinese SKS for $260 so you paid more than you aught to have but it's still less than $500 for a great gun. Even the Chinese ones sell out quickly.

Honestly, I find my SKS to be more of a pleasure to shoot than my AK with it's bullet button.

Compared with a Cali AK, the SKS fires the same cartridge, it easier to load (top loading magazine not requiring a tool) and has a milder recoil impulse from the short stroke piston (AK has a more aggressive long stroke piston).

Go to the Curio and Relics forum with questions. Lots of SKS experts there that can help you.

And if you want a replacement wood stock, here's a Romanian one for $22.99 including hardware.
