Some people will always call them clips. I don't want to be a jerk in the first two minutes I see him. We go shooting I call them magazines, what can you do?

My father in law hadn't touched a firearm in about 45 years until I handed him my AK. He kept messing with the saftey selector wondering why it wouldn't go full auto.

                  My thread got me thinking...

When you go shooting with people who don't bring guns and don't have any ammo, are you liberal or conservative with letting people shoot your ammo?

I'd like to share the love of shooting but i also spend a lot of money on my hobby and feel like I would cringe letting someone shoot 100 rounds for free?

                  Any suggestions?

I think the key is having the ammo discussion with your buddy before you go shooting so both of you have the same expectation. Before I owned a firearm, I had no idea how much ammo cost. The last time I took a newbie shooting, I just paid for his ammo.

But next time I take him, I'll probably charge him and I think I would have the talk this way:
Me: Hey, you want to go shooting?
                    Friend: Sure
Me: Ammo's pretty expensive. I covered for you last time, but this time, I'm gonna have to get paid dude.
100 rounds of 9mm cost me $25, but I'll give you a buddy discount for $20. 100 rounds of 22s goes for $8. You can pay me after we shoot.
                    Friend: Ok, sounds good.

I don't correct people who calls them clips (I used to), but I do like to watch when they go to the LGS and ask for a clip and the guy behind the counter says "We don't have any clips for that rifle".

Saw this so many times at Turner's. You gotta' love the workers there who refused to sell them magazines until they correct themselves.

Been said before, we are from different generations, in my time they WERE called clips, trigger finger control was getting your gloved fingers into the trigger guard. Safetys were guys who played football. Gun control was using both hands and hitting your target.
We walked down the street with our shotguns, (loaded) to hunt quail, no one freaked and called the SWAT team, (they didn't exist). Rifles had wood stocks and iron sights. I grew up with a B&W TV. On and on........
Times were different my friends, hard for all of us old timers to keep up with modern stuff, hey I don't even have a smart phone, but I do enjoy my classic iPod.
Oh, and politicians actually cared about our rights.

I look at it this way: if it's their first time out, I treat them. It's the price of a few drinks or dinner, so it's no big deal. I was afforded this courtesy when I first started shooting and I pay it forward.

Now that I'm buying my own ammo, I much better appreciate the generosity of the enabler of my new obsession.

If I'm taking someone out to go shooting the first time or I'm treating a friend for helping me out/it's their birthday, I supply the ammo. Otherwise I'll have them buy some ammo and meet them at the range. I usually come out in the red a little bit (because I only tell them to buy one caliber and I bring a couple guns with different calibers) but it's better than funding the entire shoot. My buddies always know to bring some ammo/cash with them to help out if I take them to the range. It's a pretty decent understanding between us.
