Intra State shotgun transfer - family members?

My Southern California uncle passed away a few months ago. For a couple years I had expressed interest in buying one of his 12 gauge shotguns for target shooting. Now, his son is going to give me the shotgun and ship it to me in Northern California - Santa Clara County. I've read several of the threads regarding the correct legal way to ship the rifle and make the proper transfer.

However, after talking with two gun dealers and a suggestion that the law changed in California in July of 2008, I'm confused. I'm currently assuming that my cousin can ship the gun via UPS to a local FFL and I pay the processing and registration fees to the FFL? Perhaps, with the new law, my cousin needs to have it shipped through a FFL, or the registration/background check done first?

Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Your cousin can still ship it directly to your FFL (assuming your FFL will accept a shipment from a private party, not required to and some won't). No CFLC needed since that only applies for FFL-to-FFL shipments, not private party to FFL.

No, your FFL can charge you whatever they want to, they are not limited to the $35 PPT unless your cousin physically walks in with you and you do the PPT instore.

Do you want an AOW or C&R SBS/SBR in CA?

      Thanks...

      Thanks Jack,

I've made arrangements with Roger's Relics in Santa Clara, Ca - good price and nice people to deal with.
