Dicks Palmdale Store

Just stopped by to take a quick look around. First it was very busy with lots of people milling around. They have a giant two tier rifle rack filling a very long wall, it looks impressive from a distance. Looking at the guns in the rack I noticed that all the guns were low grade "mass consumer" guns that would interest the hunter, new buyers, and guys on a restricted budget. Nothing wrong with that but it's not what I'm interested in. I didn't see any Remington rifles, or any higher quality rifles, no black rifles, no Mini-14s, or tactical rifles. They did have a good selection of Savage magazine feed rifles (MVPs I think). Tons of 10/22s and cheaper bolt 22s. No handguns.
Overall I was left with the impression of a poorly stocked gun selection (lots of the same model gun filling the racks). It reminded me of when Kmart sold guns. Limited selection and a few gun related items. My local Walmart in Arizona has way more stuff in about 1/8th the space. Plus rows of black rifles and quality bolt guns.
I don't think I would shop there unless they had a sale on 22LR ammo or a cheap Rem700 to use as a project gun. I'll have to look at the sales ads to see if they really stock anything I would be interested in.

P.S. Looking at Dicks website it looks like they stock a couple of nice rifles and shotguns but one or two good guns in a sea of discount guns is not a great selection.

Thanks for saving me the trip. I've been to Dick's in Arizona and knew better than to think that a Cali store would be similar. At least they carry rifles, I figured they wouldn't.

Well perceived poor selection or not, at least they are selling guns here in California unlike Wal-Mart.

Its a plus ther're selling guns. The Dicks we have in Upland doesn't have much of an outdoors selection let alone guns.
FWIW, I stopped by the WalMart in Adelanto this morning on my way to my shooting spot. Nice store but all the same ammo as the one in Rancho ...talked to a couple guys looking for 22lr and or course WM
didn't have any. I offered to sale one of the guys some ( I had a couple bulk boxes of M22 in the truck) I guess he didn't trust me.

We got a Dicks about a year ago. The place blows. Went there for the grand opening and got a ammo can of 22 saw no reason to go back since. It’s like a giant Big 5.

We just got a Sportsman’s Warehouse, 10X better than Dicks. Good selection of rifles, lots of 1911s (I’m looking for one so it was nice to go somewhere they had a bunch I could actually hold), reloading stuff, etc.

anyway thanks for saving me a trip, i was going to stop by on my way out. by the way the Walmart on the east side of Lancaster has 100 round boxes of cci in stock but you have to ask for them as they keep them locked up in the back. scored 600 rounds yesterday, best thing CA did for me in a while......

I wouldn't step foot into Dicks even if they had the last box of ammo that I needed. I would learn to fling rocks.

The one here sells rifles also, w/some mid grade stuff thrown in, like you you say no HG or AR's...

But if you need a base ball bat, or weight set your GTG...
