Bore snake and Otis Kit....

Since i've been searching and I've came to the conclusion on using the bore-snake for quick clean at the range and otis kit for home cleaning....

What otis kit did you guys go with for the AR-15?

the tactical one or the ar15 softpack?

I have all kinds of Otis stuff, and it is good...but I feel Otis is best for a quick clean in the field or range. I would go with a rod and jag for a thorough clean at home.......YMMV.

I agree. If you want it CLEAN, then rod and jag are the way to go.

However, I seldom use one. Most of the time I just run the boresnake through a few times. Or once in a while use my OTIS kit.

Since I bought my Otis kits, I never use a cleaning rod.

I just bore-snake my guns and throw em in the safe. Seems to work just fine.

I keep the small Otis bore-CLP, nylon coated wire and patches in my range bag. Throw in a bronze brush and you're GTG. BTW I really like Butch's bore shine for cleaning fouled bores at home with a Dewey rod and brush/jag.

I have a couple of their kits. I couldn't tell you which ones off the top of my head, but just get the one that has what you need/want in it.

I have the otis pistol/rifle kit. Its a good kit, lots of tools and very compact. I use a bore snake at the range and then break out the otis kits for detailed cleaning every couple trips.

I'll mirror what others have said in that at the range/desert, I'll run my boresnake through my upper. But when Im at home, I tend to get the rod and give it a good clean.

Last few times though, I've just used the boresnake and some compressed air for the lugs/chamber area. The compressed air works great at getting the lugs cleaned. A bit messy, but it works.
