    First 1911

Hey guys, about to add my first 1911 to my collection, .45 of course.. I been looking at both gun's for some time now, and have shot both, one more than the other, I'm a bit twisted here as far as choosing between the two.. Colt, or Sig I know there probably isnt a right or wrong choice, but maybe yall can steer me into one over the other..

I'm gonna be in the $1,000 budget mark

Help me spend my hard earned money

Colt is more true of 1911 design, Sig has more modern features. Sig slide is beefier and the Sig is more likely to be more reliable with Hollow points (Ramp barrel). I have not bought a Colt recently but about +10yrs ago, you still need to have the Colt ramp and throat polish for reliability issues. Watch video on un-assembling of you can end up with the famous "idiot scratch"

Yes, both are good options. However, since this is your first 1911, go with the Colt.

For a reliable, out-of-the-box 1911, go with a Colt or Springfield.

Save your money and by a Rock Island Tactical.
They come loaded with good features, ambi thumb safety, beavertail grip safety, decent trigger, they're reliable, RIA has great customer service if you should need it and it will cost about $600 OTD.

Next step up, get a Springfield Armory "Loaded" model About $850 OTD

Good luck with whatever you choose.
And be careful, 1911's can be addictive.

Sig 1911's are very reliable out of the box. They also have a lot of features that other 1911's in the same price range are lacking.

Correct , sigs have very good value , front checkering , trigger guard relief cut , night sites .... Just to name a few, plus they are reliable and accurate . If you don't mind the slide profile and the external extractor , you will be pleased with a sig 1911 . When ammo bros had the sig1911 SSS for $820 5 month ago I snatched one and couldn't be happier , my first 1911 as well .

I think SIG makes a great 1911 for the money. I bought a SSS earlier this year and liked it so much I bought their nickel 1911 as well. Solid guns with great features I shoot mine more accurately than most other guns in my collection.

I bought an S&W 1911 TA E-Series as my first 1911 a few months ago. I LOVE it. The Springfield was my 2nd choice but I didn't get it because I didn't want Schwartz safety or whatever it's called. The S&W one is "drop safe" by having an ultra light titanium firing pin and strong spring instead of having some extra internal junk attached to the grip safety. It's also got a match barrel/target crown, night sights, checkering everywhere, adjustable trigger, oversized ejection port, and all the other 1911 "must haves". Those scales, while awesome just to look at, really do give you a better grip that just straight lines, which is nice.

Mine was over your budget but only because I got the railed one. The non-railed E-series MSRPs right around 1k. It's off roster so you'll have to SSE. If you want that black color it only comes on the railed one, but it's nice because the gun is still stainless with the melonite coating on top of it, so you get double protection.

(not my gun but same model)

I have not been all that impressed with Kimber or Springfield considering the price that some of them go for. The Sig is a good value and mine has been completely problem free, albeit only about 3k rounds through it. Have been impressed with what RIA offers for the money as well. No experience with the current Colt models.
