BLM or NF in the Southern Sierra's

    Hi guys,

A group of us will be meeting another group half way between the SF Bay Area and San Diego.

We're trying to plan a BLM/NF trip for some target shooting, but I have no idea where to go.

I'd prefer some place east of Bakersfield in the Southern Sierra's.

Planning on renting a cabin/house and just do day trips to the target shooting areas.

Alternatively, it would be cool to find a ranch/farm type rental on a large amount of acres where we could just setup somewhere away from the house and shoot. I'm pretty sure that would be like finding a needle in a haystack.

If we can't find anything, I'll just tell the Socal Boys to drive a little further and we'll just default to Tumey Hills or Panoche.

If you have any ideas or suggestions feel free to PM me.

I guess no one wants to give up their secret spots. No worries, I understand. It's like giving up a secret fishing hole.

If it's any consolation, I used to be a regular at the Panoche clean ups that Turbinator organized.

So, alternatively, no isolated cabins or ranch houses on acres of land that one can rent and shoot on property? Would be cool to find such a place.

Will BLM even let us shoot due to fire danger with the drought?

    Cheers guys!

If you guys are willing to drive a little further south, check this out:

Instead of renting a cabin rent an RV. Some members from the Bay area are coming down as well.

Thanks for mentioning it. I am definitely aware of it. Sounds like a great time.

I'll have to see what the other guys think.

        Cheers!

See if the Bass Lake range in the SNF didn't get burned up. There are plenty of rentals this time of year at Bass Lake. If that's too far North, there are plenty of hunting ranches in near Paso Robles/Shandon/Greenfield (Jack Ranch, Bitterwater Outfitters etc...) and of course the San Luis Obispo range

Not too many people wanna give up their spots. Cant blame them. There is no way my spot would stay this clean if I started sharing it.

Found a place to stay near Sequoia National Park just east of Lake Kaweah. Can't shoot on the property, but it looks like there is BLM and NF around the area.

This is true , just like any other sports, pigs abound.
I always pick up mine and as much of others trash as I can, just so they don't shut them down. With how trashy some of the sites are, I'm surprised they have not already. I regularly see illegal fire sites during fire season. That all we need is a shooter starting another huge wildfire.
