The Rock led to a Model P....

I posted a few weeks ago about getting my wife a RIA 9mm for her birthday. http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/s...d.php?t=983783 She loves that pistol. I did my homework well. Heck, she even has let me throw a few mags downrange and I have to say that it is one sweet shooter. It's just plain fun. My Witness .45 that started the whole re-familiarizing us to the world of guns is a beast and makes me look better than I really am. It has been giving me trouble as of late and I really wanted a fun shooter of my own. So, I ordered, jailed and finally picked up this......

A Cimarron Model P in .357 with a 5.5" barrel. This is just a beautiful pistol and it shoots even better than it looks. The action is crisp and the trigger is like butter. I've only fired .38 special through it, but it is real nice. Picking up some magnums for our next church outing.

A huge thanks to the folks over at OC Firearms. They are our go to gun store now.

Of course, the obligatory artsy cell phone pic......
(yeah, I went and got me a holster rig, Amazon is your friend)

Oh, and when my wallet is done hemorrhaging on the floor, the Witness goes in for some gunsmithing.....

Uberti makes some pretty fine guns

My only complaint is the vanilla flavored grips on their stuff. That's easy enough to fix though.

I wasn't sure on the grips, but the more I look at them, the more I like them. I wanna see what they look like after some use.....

My wife hates it when I shart, but I couldn't help myself.

I never really paid any attention to Cimarron, but I was checking out there website after seeing this post. They have a lot of really nice stuff. It's tuff to decide between them and Ruger.

They won't really change with use. The lacquer on the wood is pretty tough, mine look pretty much the same now as when new about three years ago and this is with regular cowboy action shooting use.

Now some nice one-piece oil finished walnut would look the business but I've just never gotten around to changing mine. Really nice grips all need to be hand-fitted anyway and that takes time and/or money I'd rather not spend.

Congrats on the SAA (Model P). They really are one of the greatest handguns ever invented IMO.

I gotta tell ya, I took a long time making the decision to pull the trigger on this one. I've always wanted a SAA (or clone/copy). I read tons on the interweb, watched videos, et al. The only thing I couldn't do was go to a LGS and actually handle a few to get a feel for the what basically boils down to the Italian models. They just don't exist in the wild. The Stockade and Turners have Rugers. The Stockade has a Beretta Stampede and Turners also has a Taylor Cattleman. Both are basically Uberti revolvers through different importers.

The Rugers are definitely stout, well made arms. It just seemed a touch heavier (not a bad thing) and I really wanted something traditional. I kept hearing how nice the action and trigger was on the Cimarron, so that was my final decider. I don't regret it one bit.

LOL, I shoot south paw, so I'm pretty sure that my wedding ring will add some character to the grip.

One piece oil stained walnut sounds pretty nice. I may have to look into it. I was looking at grips, but the stag and pearls weren't doing anything for me.

I mainly just range shoot on weekends right now. How have yours been doing with regular CAS work? Anything I should keep an eye on? Should I plan any smith work in the future?

For range use they really don't need any special work. They're pretty good out of the box.
Now people who are serious about their CAS and shoot way more than me will have them smithed to smooth everything out, make sure the timing is right, etc. as it'll help keep the guns running smoother, longer.

After about three years now I've noticed than one of my Cimarrons won't unlock the cylinder at half-cock on the first try occasionally. I know it'd be worthwhile to have it looked over and maybe get an action job but I'll just procrastinate a bit longer I think.

ps: I've heard that the springs are the weak point. The Cimarron/Uberti is built with 19th century springs; flat springs instead of coil springs and they need replacing sooner if you're a frequent shooter. So far mine seem good.

And here I thought I was the only one pre-occupied with procrastination.
Thanks for the info Sputnik. You're absolutely correct. This thing is a real fine shooter out of the box. The sights even seem to be close, well, at least for these tired old eyes.

Also, pretty much the biggest con I heard on the Cimarrons were the springs. I kind of thought about it this way. They are like the original Colts which seem to have lasted decently when they were new. Over a hundred years ago. I know that materials and manufacturing are better now in comparison, so, for me it's a non issue.

Besides, new springs are stupid cheap and who doesn't need an excuse for upgrades?
