Does Turners check their consign firearms?

Long story short, a buddy of mine purchased a handgun on consignment from turners. He called me this morning, telling me that the safety was broken (couldn't engage the safety). Gun was listed as "90-95% condition."
Does Turners bother checking the guns they put up for consignment?
Not sure if my friend actually received a damage firearm...or if he just lacks the knowledge to use it properly. I'm going to stop by his home on Saturday to take a look, but I'm curious if any of you have had an issue purchasing a consignment gun from them.

I bought two and had no problems but can't say if they were "checked".

Your friend should have checked the firearm thoroughly before purchasing it. Same is true when buying any "used" item and sometime even brand new items.

Do buyers at Turners even check weapons before purchase...especially consigned firearms?

Consignment guns are typically sold "as is / where is", like used cars.

I can't imagine a gun store making a policy of inspecting and certifying their consignment guns. Mostly all the store is doing is advertising the items for sale, and doesn't have much else to do with them.

Thanks guys. I'll take a look at the gun when I see him.
Funny enough, we both purchased the same type of gun on Consignment, just different calibers (Both Cobra derringers, mine is in .22, the one he purchased is in .38).

Mitch, I agree to an extent, but most sellers that I've dealt with, LGS or not, have at least listed any issues with the item.

I don't know of any gun shop or any other type of shop which does consignment that checks and/or guarantees consigned products. Anyone who assumes otherwise is naive.

But with consignment the gun store is not the seller, strictly speaking.

I'll give you that. Hopefully the issues is just him not being able to operate the safety

There was a shop up here that test fired their consignment guns. Sadly they packed up and left the state.

Just an update for everyone. His gun is fine. The previous owner got some crud in between the frame and safety, which was making it difficult to engage.

This is exactly what I was thinking. I always function check my firearms before I leave the gun store. My FFL has shop snap caps that they use. I just borrow a couple and cycle it twice. If it didn't fail those two times, it likely isn't going to fail the next 5,000

I know that J&G in Prescott gives a 30 day return if you have any problems on used guns, including surplus weapons. Pretty good for the consumer.
