Finally Moved to a FREE STATE

Hey guys, Ive been a looooooooooong time lurker on here but never made an account.

I recently moved from Kalifornistan to Nevada a month ago. It felt so good to move to a free state.

The thing that has been driving me nuts is going to a gun show.

However,I still have my CA drivers license. It's gonna be a while until I get my Nevada license. Ive been very lazy about going to the DMV, lol.


so my 1st question is,

If I go to a gun show and want to buy a gun from a PRIVATE party, will they ask me for my drivers license? Can I just show them my passport instead?

My second question is,

What about a FFL dealer at the gun show? Will they ask for a license and do they do background checks? Again, can I just show them my passport instead?

FFLs in Nevada require a valid NV DL. PPT I have no idea.

I'm sure it doesn't take long to get a NV ID. I've heard of stories people going to Vegas and coming back with a picture ID.

Living in Nevada too, bought and sold PPT. Almost all my transactions the buyer or seller have asked for Nevada DL or Nevada CCW just to be safe. It's quick to get a Nevada DL, no re-testing and comes in the mail in about a week.

As for FFL purchases, they require a state issued ID, that's the law. Can't bring passport or utility bill. Passport just proves identity not residency.

Yes, DMV will punch a hole in California ID once you've been issued a temporary license.

First of all, congrats. Just recently moved to Utah several months ago, although I'm about to go active so it's short-lived but I'm loving it.

Secondly, nobody is going to want to touch you if you have a CA ID. Private party sellers still must (and probably will at a gun show) check your ID to verify identity and age, and if you roll up with a CA ID they won't sell to you. First order of business when moving: get the new ID. I already got my DL and CCW for Utah before I finished the move here and I bought THIS my first day here:

I have no idea. I never attempted to get one. have only heard stories of getting a Neveda id due going to Vegas and either losing or forgetting their id.

It would be a federal crime for someone to sell a gun to a resident of another state without going through an FFL. Most people want to see your ID just to make sure. I've bought a bunch of guns here at gunshows and just meeting up in the walmart parking lot and I think every time they just wanted to check that i was a resident.

An FFL has to run a background check and fill out a 4473 form to transfer you a gun, unless you have a valid NV CCW. The background checks take a couple minutes and they do them over the phone, its nothing like CA.

There are different rules in Clark County (Vegas) with some transfers and registration that i do not know cause I'm no where near there.

Check out Nevadashooters.com its a forum similar to calguns but for Nevada.



Best Thing to do is get your licence. Its easy and you can put a P.O. box on the address. Then get CCW and save $25 every time you buy a new gun!

I know how you feel. I just moved to NC. I changed the address on my C&R before I moved and got a NCDL in 15 minutes (no test, just pass the eye exam and ID 9/12 signs). I am ordering a P64 from AIM and paying my $75 for a CCW this week.

Moved to Nevada? Why? Nothing out there except for Vegas. I don't know why you all are complaining about California. You are in one of the most desireable states in the nation. Get off your asses, of calguns and explore there is a lot to see and do.
