Northern Idaho- .357 or .44 Mag?

I'm moving to northern Idaho in the next year or so and have been looking around at revolvers. I already have a Ruger Blackhawk .357 mag but was looking at a Super Redhawk .44 mag for the extra knockdown power. Would a .357 be sufficient?

    Thanks

What are you planning on shooting at, Bill ? Is this for the home, farm, or out hunting?
It takes a lot of balls to play golf the way I do.

It would be used on the farm/side arm while hunting. Just in case if Yogi plans on visting or a big, big kitty cat lol

If you think you may encounter a bear, I would recommend no less than a .44. I saw a show on Outdoor Channel recently where a guy had a grizzly charging him down and I recall it taking 4 rounds of .44 before it even backed off.

Ruger Super Redhawk Alaskan. Damn that is what all those guides carry up there in God's Country.

Ruger Super Black Hawk in 45 Colt and a 4 5/8 barrel. 300 grain hard cast bullets @ 1000-1100+ fps good for anything.

I spend a lot of time in North Idaho and have had a number of both black and grizzly bear encounters. I typically carry a .41 mag, but feel under gunned around grizzlies unless I'm carrying a 12 gauge shotgun.

                      Where you moving to?

Bears are not a handgun problem.

As the joke goes, The "grizzly special" modification involves grinding off the front sight, that way, after you empty the handgun and the bear takes it away, it doesn't hurt as much when he jams it up your...

Seriously, one guy already said it, if you're carrying for grizzlies, a 12g or a lever action in a rifle cartridge is a must. Use a revolver to get to the real firearm.
