    Desert Eagle

Curious, what is the purpose of a Desert Eagle other than it being a bad mother ........ Of a gun?

I've had my eyes on it for for a long time and likely always will as I can't justify it as a home defense gun, paper hole puncher and I don't do matches.

There are just cool to look at and some are fun to shoot other than that for some they are merely a penis extension when needed.

Why does it have to have a "purpose"? I've never understood that type of thinking.

                Handgun hunting.

Beyond that it's just a cool gun and why does there have to be a "reason" for a gun? Private ownership of weapons is NOT subject to a vetting of "need" as is done in a procurement process for LEOs or the government.

Simple. A gun is either a toy or a tool. As tool, I have no real application for it compared to say a .22lr rifle, 30-30 Winchester for hunting, AR for target/hunting, etc.

As a toy, it's a sure expensive toy at $1.50-$2 a round. But man.. it's a nice one.

It looks good on the movies and video games.

Before the dreaded California list I used to sell a lot of them. They were also one of the most often returned firearms for mechanical problems. I don't miss selling them.

Hmm, I guess I'm not really interested in the "tools" side of firearms. I don't hunt anymore, and I'm not a serious HD or SHTF kind of guy. I like shooting, I like history and I like the precision engineering that all firearms embody. I suppose I see a difference between a "toy" and an "interesting activity". For me, a tacticool AR would be a "toy".

So I've always thought they were 100% bad *****ed and at the same time could not see myself "needing" it.
Been reloading for a couple years now and kept reading others experience with it.
Meanwhile, I've started enjoying to shoot my 629 and a ruger bisley in .45 LC and a little more .357 as well.
Finally have got to the point where I was drooling of it so much I just said "ef it, life is short and I just gotta go with it" I pick up mine next Friday. Got it in .44 and already got the conversion for .50 as well.
Of course it will be an attention getter at the range but there are a few so no biggie there.
I'm most excited about loading successfully for it. The reloading/ammo forum here has got others who seem to know their stuff. If I didn't reload, no way I'd be interested in owning one. It's not just a cost issue with ammo it's being able to customize the loads.

I enjoy powerful handguns. The .44 mag has been a favorite of mine for decades but those with more recoil are also interesting.

I enjoy shooting the DE (mine's a .50) but it's really a novelty. Factory ammo is too expensive but handloads are less than two for a dollar. Usually it comes out just before we go home and everybody gets a mag to enjoy. Sometimes people will refuse to shoot it. It's too big, too heavy, and the grip is a good fit for pretty much no-one.

I bought my DE used and the price was right. Some of you have probably shot mine -- it was the rental at Discount in Las Vegas until a few months ago when they replaced it.

People don't like to be meddled with. We tell them what to do, what to think, don't run, don't walk. We're in their homes and in their heads and we haven't the right. We're meddlesome.
