    CA Legal AK Help?

Okay, I've searched till I'm cross eyed, and my head hurts trying to make sense of all these asinine laws. I need some help here!
I have a chance to pick up this AK (pics below) at an insanely low price. My understanding is that there were only 7000 of of these imported to the US, and I know how much they are going for in the "free" states. I "think" this is one of the post ban KBI imports by the Elm stock and no cleaning rod?.
What I need to know is:
    1) What specific parts have to be replaced/removed to make it CA legal?
    2) What parts do you recommend?
    3) Can this be done without permanent alteration to the gun?
    4) "If" it's shipped to me, do these parts have to be installed before it ships, or can the gun be shipped disassembled, and I install the parts?
    5) Can I even buy this?

The SA85 is not banned by name, so heres how you would go about posessing that:

Message the seller and find out if he is comfortable shipping to CA. Refer him to this site if need be. The items that are going to give you a problem are the stock and hi cap mag. I would have him remove the stock and keep the mag. However, the rifle needs to be 30" long to be legal, and Im not sure if it will come to that without the stock; In fact im sure it wont.

Once you get it, then you will have to choose whether or not to go featureless, where you can use detachable mags AND any perbans you may own, or use a maglock and get stuck with using a tool to remove the mag and can only use 10 rounders, but you can keep the thumbhole stock. If you go featureless, you can fill in the stock or remove it all together, get a regular one and a MMG. If you want to lock it, the jumbopanda lock is easy to use, mounts in seconds and makes no permanent alteration to the rifle.

Good luck? Im sure someone here has some more insight, maybe a 3rd party like CWS can help. I build my AKs from kits.

See if the seller is willing to install the jumbopanda lock before shipping. This would be your safest bet you wouldn't have to worry about min length requirements. Check this link and see if he has some http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/s...ad.php?t=93866

Leave the mag out of state or have him disassemble it so you can make a 10/30 out of it.

Thats a nice looking rifle good luck.

Easiest and cheapest thing to do would be for the seller to take the stock off and disassemble the magazine and ship them separate from the rifle. They could go to your home while the rest goes to your FFL.

Once it gets to you in that configuration, assemble in any way you'd like that complies with all CA AW provisions and 922r and enjoy.

The seller is a very good friend of mine in Idaho, he bought it new and put one mag through it!
