Utah CCW, Florida CCW ?

Ummmmm..... No.Originally posted by theseacowi think florida is just for florida and georgia. Utah is 28 states.
check packing.org
Last time I checked, Florida gets you 30 states. Not just Florida and Georgia.
Utah gets you 31 states, but that's before you take into consideration there are a few which won't recognize a non-resident permit. Michigan springs to mind right away.
Together, the Florida and Utah non-resident CCW permits have a lot of redundency. Ends up being a coin toss in my opinion.Learning without thought is labor lost, thought without learning is perilous. -FoamyComment

I have both;
I got FL first because the requirements were less. My certificate from Front Sight was good enough to satisfy their training/experience requirement. They also accept NRA certified training and military duty among others. Call the Fl Dept. of Agriculture and ask for a CCW application and they will send you everything you need.
I got UT because a good friend of mine is a UT certified instructor; (a requirement for a UT CCW) and he taught the class to me for free.
As others have stated, they both overlap a lot, and unless you specifically go to the state excluded by one, the other is probably sufficient. If Packing.org is still up (?) check it out. Also Handgunlaw.us is a new and excellent source for CCW reciprocity.Comment

Well, I travel a bit and usually have a good reason to be carrying. Just for everyone else's info, this is what I've got and why.
My primary two, NV & FL. Never leave home without them.
Nevada:
- Alaska
- Arizona
- Idaho
- Indiana
- Kentucky
- Missouri
- Montana
- Oklahoma
- S Dakota
- Tennessee
- Texas
- Utah
- Vermont
Florida:
- Alabama
- Alaska
- Arizona
- Arkansas
- Colorado
- Delaware
- Georgia
- Idaho
- Indiana
- Kentucky
- Louisiana
- Mississippi
- Missouri
- Montana
- New Mexico
- N Carolina
- N Dakota
- Ohio
- Oklahoma
- Pennsylvania
- S Dakota
- Tennessee
- Texas
- Utah
- Vermont
- Virginia
- Wyoming
Just these two will get you legal in 29 states.
I've also got non-res permits for Maine, Connecticut, New Hampshire and Massachusetts. Not like their permits added anything significant to the list, but I had valid reasons to get CCWs for work there.
Pretty much if you get either a NV & FL combo or a NV & UT combo you're going to be good to go with a large number of states.
* Just make sure you check whether or not the state you're going to will accept a non-resident CCW. Michigan will honor pretty much everybody (44 states) but only IF you've got a resident permit. Massachusetts and New Hampshire are just like Kalifornia in that they won't honor ANY permit from ANY state. Also be aware that every state has different restrictions on where you can and cannot carry.
There's a lot of overlap between the FL non-resident CCW and the UT non-resident CCW. The only exception is that FL will get you Pennsylvania and UT gets you Minnesota and Washington.Last edited by m1371; 06-08-2006, 2:02 AM.Learning without thought is labor lost, thought without learning is perilous. -FoamyComment

I would recommend the Utah one.
I mean if you travel to florida a lot, then get that of course but they are really a toss up. The Fl one costs more in the beginning and it is much more expensive to renew every 3 years.
The utah one is cheap and costs only 10 bucks every 5 years...Utah all the way.Comment

I have both. Florida does not recognize any other non-resident permit. So, if you plan on travelling to FL you need their permit. As m1371 said, FL also gives you Pennsylvania and Utah gives you Minnesota and Washington.
Here is a list of states that honor the Utah Non-Resident CCW permit:
Alabama
Alaska
Arizona
Arkansas
Colorado
Delaware
Georgia
Idaho
Indiana
Kentucky
Louisiana
Minnesota
Mississippi
Missouri
Montana
New Mexico
North Carolina
North Dakota
Ohio
Oklahoma
South Dakota
Tennessee
Texas
Utah
Vermont
Virginia
Washington

You got a CCW permit for Massachusetts? Isn't that the most difficult state to get a permit in? My brother moved from CA to Mass a few years ago and gave up all hope of being allowed to bring his pistols with him. He told me it's very hard to get a permit there, and I decided not to mention the off list lower issue to him, sparing him a bit.Originally posted by m1371Well, I travel a bit and usually have a good reason to be carrying.
