    Power Ranking 22LR Ammo

After a frustrating couple of evenings trying to shoot 22LR Winchester White JHP out of a Browning Buckmark and a Walther P22, I've pretty much come to the conclusion that I should probably not bother buying this particular product again.

Small hole shooter suggested that I stick to CCI Mini Mags, Fedrral AutoMatch and CCI Blazer.

How would you rank the various brands and products available for 22LR?

    Pistols
    1. CCI Mini Mag (2)
    2. Federal Auto Match
    3. CCI Blazer (2)
    4. Winchester White JHP

    Rifles
    1. CCI Mini Mag (4)
    2. CCI AR Tactical (2)
    3. Eley Tenex Ultimate EPS (2)
    3. Eley Match (1)
    3. Eley Edge (1)
    3. Eley Club (1)
    3. Eley Target (1)
    4. CCI Stinger (1)
    4. CCI Velociter (1)
    4. CCI Blazer (2)
    5. Aquila SSS (1)

From my .22 rifles anyway, it's been:
    Hot: CCI Stingers
Most accurate, hands down: Eley Tenex Ultimate EPS

ETA: Just noticed you're talking about .22 Pistol. Eley makes Tenex in a pistol version, but I've yet to give it a try. Sorry if I mucked up your thread!

No worries. Is there a difference between 22LR for pistols and rifles?

Did I add your ranking right?

Well in my 10/22 it likes blazers the best for bulk, and mini mags for a little more money. I shoot .22 almost every other day on my property and just shoot blazers to take rabbits and squirrels. If I'm going to target shoot, out come the mini mags. I made Rifleman with the mini mags too.

CCI Mini-Mags & CCI AR Tactical are really close. I can't tell the difference.
Both are very accurate in My 15-22 & 10-22.

CCI Velocitors have a surprising kick for a 22.
I rate them pretty high on the power list.
(Spectacular muzzle flash from the Ruger SR22P)

Aquila SSS is an odd beast that mates a 60gr bullet to a 22 short case.
The overall length is the same as a 22LR.
They are SO quiet that I can hear the action cycle on the rifles.
There's enough power to reliable cycle both my rifles.
I'm not sure where to put this on your power list since it's heavy but slow.

The only difference I've found between AR Tactical & Mini-Mags is the AR Tactical doesn't have the punch to reliably cycle the bolt back far enough to pick up the next round in my AR-7. Mini-Mags get it done every time. However, the 10/22 & the SR22 P love the AR Tactical & I feel it's great ammo for the price.

I'm confused about what you want us to do. Are we supposed to just rank the 6 types of ammo you have listed? Or are we supposed to add other brands/types? Are you talking about target shooting, plinking, or small game hunting? How much weight should we give to factors like reliability, accuracy, dirtiness, and cost?

If you're looking for accuracy data, you can start by taking a look at these test results: http://www.accurateshooter.com/guns-...mparison-test/

If you really just want to know our favorite .22 LR ammo, then mine would be anything by Eley for rifles (Tenex, Match, Edge, Club, and Target -- probably in that order), Mini-Mags for pistols (40 grain first, then 36 grain), and Blazers for bulk ammo plinking (rifles or pistols), followed closely by Remington Golden Bullets. Those are MY favorites. If this thread lasts long enough, you'll end up with just about every type of ammo made as someone's favorite.

Let us know if you're looking for something else.

                Fair questions, McRifle.

I'll admit, my initial reaction was just wanting to find something that would reliably feed because pausing to kick out FTEs and FTFs really sucks.

I'm working my way up the Winchester/NRA Qualifications, so my concern replacing my junky Winchester White JHP with something reliable and accurate, while keeping an eye on cost.

I'm not restricting the list to what I had up there. In fact, I think this is the first time I've even heard of Eley, but the two people who've mentioned seem to like it very very much.

They are identical except Tactical is 35 fps faster.

The most accurate 22LR ammo is standard velocity. Test each in your gun. Some guns will need weaker springs to run lower velocity ammo reliably.

I shoot Stingers out of my mosquito and it has never failed, they are super fast 1640fps. Really loud and has a nice muzzle flash, everyone who shoots it with the singers is very surprised that a "22" can be so powerful.

Sounds like Stingers may not be ideal for first timers, then? Not that I had that as part of my criteria.

Even a more powerful 22 is going to be nothing like a .38 or 9mm, though, right?
