    LR308 Build HELP part II

I have the upper parts to put together and as I was sliding on the gas block with the gas tube already attached I notice another issue. I'm using the DPMS SASS 18" barrel, which has a larger barrel contour after the gas hole location in the barrel.
Problem: When I slide the gas block/gas tube onto the barrel the gas tube is not high enough to clear the larger barrel contour, so it rubs the barrel and it won't allow me to slide the gas block all the way onto the barrel.
It appears I will need a gas block that will fit the .936 barrel and a higher gas block tube hole and a straight gas tube.

It looks like this gas block from Brownell will work.

I couldn't find any straight gas tubes... any thoughts.

I used the same barrel to assemble my .308 AR, and had the same problem. There's only one gas block made by DPMS that will fit that barrel properly so you can get the gas tube into the gas hole. Look at their website and you'll find it listed with their barrel. Other .936" ID gas blocks won't fit the contour of the SASS barrel.

I found a cheaper alternative that fit my SASS barrel at jsesurplus. DPMS makes one marketed specifically for the SASS that was selling in the 99.00 range, I think the one i got was called a "mini" gas block and it was only 29 or so.

17 bucks. I used this on my SASS and it works fine.

          Part II

I spoke with DPMS, they do not have any in stock AND don't know when they'll be getting any into inventory. I spoke with Brownells and the recc. the one I have a link to, indicated that it was made for the heavy contour barrel of the SASS, and only $20. Still looking for a straight gas tube of rifle length.. any leads or recc.??
