When you apply you state you are an avid shooter who transports guns in his or her car at least 2 (3 is even better) days a week. You also transport these guns in the evening in areas that are not well lit and populated (like your local indoor range.)

Then ask the range manager to write you a letter stating you shoot there frequently (2 - 3 times a week) in the evening.

This letter is in addition to your two letters of reference.

(This is sufficient in Orange County......if you're in LA County, forget about it until you become a famous movie star being stalked by crazed fans.)

to my knowledge, it isn't limited by counties but by state. So if you have a california CCW, it is valid within california.

Yes, any California CCW is valid throughout the entire state.

The only exception would be CCWs that were issued specifically for an occupational requirement. IIRC, a Sheriff can issue job related CCWs for someone who works in his county (doesn't have to be a resident), but the CCW is only good for that county and only when that person is working.

if that's the case, why don't people move to Orange county, get their permits and move back to their counties

You must be a permanent resident of that county. If you want to change your drivers license address, create a utility bill and apply, that is fine, but the moment you move back to your old residence and change your address again, you must notify your county and this might cause a problem.

                      Thanks guys,

I used the avid shooter reason for my application. The interview was very easy. Very straightforward questions. Nothing to prepare for. Just tell the truth and be direct.

I'm scheduled for my class on July 22nd and 23rd at Raahauges for the FTA course. So if anyone's taking that class too, let me know!

Greg, the PII will not be carried. I have a Custom Carry I'm waiting on

Richard, when you take the class, they will tell you..............not to advertise if you have a CCW and not to answer the question when you are carrying......(except to an LEO.)
Agreed. Outside of here, most of my friends don't even know I've applied for a CCW, and most won't know. Only the ones that wrote my letter of recommendation are know if it. I'm doing this mainly for myself, and partly cuz I wanted to see if I could actually get approved... many thanks for your help Mark.

Oh, how could I forget. Many thanks to xYourlocalAR15x also.

Its better than that; good statewide. I can carry in San Francisco while the residents are helpless and unarmed even in their homes and businesses (when H takes effect).

Hey congrats! I'd apply but I live in San Diego County so from what I hear it's not worth even trying.

Go to CaliforniaCCW.org and click on your home county page; you might be surprised.
