    Tractor mounted scabbard and shotgun

I have a tractor that I move between two pieces of property, one is quite rural farm land and the other is in secluded mountain forest. I couldn't find anything on line that would just bolt on so I fired up the welder and made my own scabbard metal bracket mount for a 30 year old pistol gripped 12 gauge Mossberg beater. I found a black synthetic fabric scabbard that fit the shotgun and used it as a pattern for the metal "bird cage" build.
I thought it also needed some extra ammunition storage so I took a 12 gauge shell into a BB hardware store to try to find a piece of pipe that would be a close fit. Gas pipe! Also made a discovery that when you strip off the exterior tar coating, the pipe was nicely blued. Welded the cut pieces into three groups of four bandolier style cartridge tubes and welded one each onto three of the four bird cage brackets. A bit of grinding, sanding and a couple coats of black rattle can paint and it was ready to mount. I chose to attach it on the also painted black left side front end bucket loader dock which is out of the way from the tractor controls yet still within easy grasp. It really blends in well in to the tractor's paint scheme.

NICE! Now that I have that, all I need is a place where I can use a tractor! That's scheduled for next year

nice job & that looks great.

... but as you probably know and I've learned from experience, pistol grips on 12 gauge shotguns not only not that accurate at any distance, they also make the web of your hand not feel good.

but who knows maybe with a lot of practice.

My father had a scabbard bailing-wired on his tractors for many, many years. He *hated* jack rabbits in his fields, and his old Winchester Model 12 took down many of the fast varmints.

So today, I came home from working a Saturday, poured myself a drink, and turned on my computer with high hopes that the internet would have something worth my time this afternoon. I have officially not been disappointed.

Nice! I usually just carry around my J Frame loaded with snake shot, but I'd love to add a long gun scabbard and a chain saw scabbard to my Kubota. I'm on 10 treed acres so the chainsaw mount is going to get priority and my J Frame will continue handling the rattlers until I can figure out where to add a second spot for the long gun.
