Need a place to go shooting

Anyone know where I can find a place out in the open to go shoot that's NOT an official shooting range? I'm talking wide open space. Yuba/Roseville/Sac area but willing to drive a couple hours out.

A couple hours out....you can pretty much hit any BLM or NF area and shoot. Just check with the local rangers or land management. Make sure to use the maps as you can easily cross over into private land.

Definitely a place like that in Fresno County....I go there frequently.

Well, it isn't what I call wide open space....But plenty of space for pistols and shorter rifle distances.

I'd agree with you but then we'd both be wrong...

I've ordered maps before from BLM and they seemed to be really outdated. I drove out to some of the areas and they were not public anymore.

Yeah I've been there plenty of times. It's not bad but we're looking for a place with no one else.

Spenceville is sketchy at best. A lot of low lifes there. A couple of people have been jacked there. The M.O. is a group of guys come in and shoot for a while then hang out. When another shooter is done and goes to his car and unloads his weapons to be legal to travel, they come over and take his stuff at gun point.
