I've been thinking that since I enlisted. I had a Gunny argue furiously with me that Marines with CCWs would cause violence in the barracks to skyrocket.

Been gone too long. It's been 15 to 20 years since i had to shelf my guns. Those early years sucked.

Reported as a suicide attempt. Very sad.

for a female to openly try to harm herself in public with a firearm is a very strange thing indeed.

Appears to be a suicide attempt but not all details are out, so I can't make any conclusions on this particular case.

But yes, Fort Hood x2, the Navy Yard, and this are constant reminders what an unarmed and unsecured location allows for. I hope someday the DOD will allow CCW for military personnel and civilians working on base -either recognize State-issued permits or create their own DOD CCW focused on base defense. Whatever the case, this sitting duck policy has to go.

Why is it the only people with guns on a military base are the nutjobs?

                        Again?!

As for the guys saying the soldiers should defend them selves. Only about 5% of personnel are armed on bases on US soil. Usually of which is just security. So there is nothing to really be armed with until security shows up. Almost like us, hide and run until the police show up.

I just read the later comments and at least it looks more like a suicide than a mass shooting. Not that that's good news, but not as bad IMO.

                          My questions for today's media

"Active" shooter, what does that mean?

Is there an "inactive" shooter in the opposite universe?

Was reading the article about the 3 other incidents in Virginia on military bases. Was genuinely surprised that I hadn't heard of any of the others. Sad stuff happening to those poor guys. So glad Im out

I was still at Hood a few months ago during the last shooting and that was a looong day of waiting before we could go home.
