    LaserLyte Trainer?

Has anyone used this product? Does it work well for training?

    Works for some things.

Cheaper than using real ammo; safe to use at home, indoors; convenient times (whenever you want). Can use it to practice drawing from a holster, after learning how to do it.

That target works with any laser at all (well, any red one I've tried) so don't need the insert or the practice 'blue gun' to use it.

No recoil, so not effective in training for follow-up shots. If your weapon isn't double-action, practice requires recocking. That's pretty annoying for, say, a Glock.

And just like any other dry fire practice, lock up your ammo!

I used it when I got my first pistol (Beretta Px4 Storm) and it helped me with the trigger pull. I lent it to a colleague and he too said it helped him.

The only thing you'll want to watch out for, is that you cannot use it outdoors under bright sunlight.

If you're thinking of getting one to help you improve your pistol shooting, I'll say get it, it is worth the money.

            WAIT!
I had one a while back and unfortunately, it failed.
I bought the kit that included the blue pistol.
It worked pretty good for about an hour. Not a continuous hour but total.
Then it stopped reacting and would only "shoot" about 1/30.
When it did work, the point of impact was accurate.
I chose the plastic gun because I have Glocks and 1911's. I didn't have a revolver at the time.
I sent the kit back to Optics Planet 2x for exchange but the replacements weren't any better so I just got a refund.
This was more than a year ago, maybe 2 so I don't know if they corrected any of the flaws.
I did try it in different areas of the house and in the garage as well. There was no ambient noise to screw up the sound activator.
I was very disappointed it didn't turn out.
Optics Planet and Amazon has good ratings but not for the plastic pistol.
Maybe if you use the laser in a double action pistol or revolver it will work.

I actually got this one instead. I like it better for its reaction mode which IMO helps with faster target acquisition practice.

By chance, did you fail to remove the batteries from the laser unit when you were putting the setup away? It's "ON" so long as the batteries are installed correctly, and the batteries drain even when you're not watching.

I pull my batteries, and I'm still on my first set after more than a year of (sadly, sporadic) use.

I've had the Laserlyte trainer for years.
I modified it by putting a flashing led on top so when it's powered on I know it. Otherwise if you can leave it on when finished (if you've cleared the target) and run the batteries down. They're AA batteries but you've got to pull a number of screws out the back to change it - a bit of a pain.

The laser comes in two flavors, one universal that goes in the muzzle or a cartridge specific that is inserted in the breech. I have both, use the universal for revolvers. As Librarian states, that one needs to have the batteries pulled when not in use. The models that are "cartridges" are activated by the firing pin and don't need the batteries to be removed when not in use.

Useful for cleaning up your trigger pull.
Useful for confirming where you were shooting when you draw from a holster or snapping handgun to firing position.

If you use it a lot the savings in ammo will pay for the system.

I was just using mine in my G29 while waiting for dinner to cook. Its a fantastic way to work on your sight picture and trigger control. If you have an appropriate holster you can work on drawing and fast shots from the holster. It is invaluable to teach new shooters how to acquire a sight picture. Just be warned: be overly quick to take the batteries out, take the batteries out if youre not using it for more than a few min, and buy extra batteries when you order it

I removed the batteries after each use.

I have several laser bore sight cartridges and was aware of storage issue.

It's possible that I had a first generation blue gun or the distributor just kept pulling from a bad lot.

At any rate, going by the evaluations on Amazon and Optics Planet, looks like I'm the odd man out.

There's always a direct proportion to how much I spend on something and the likelihood it will fail. Prime example: I buy a $100 kite and can't get it to fly. Buy a $4 balsa wood and cellophane kite from CVS drug store and it's an indestructible flying machine.

I think a shot timer is a better way to spend money...

Surefire has a shot timer app for the I Phone. it is too quiet for the range, but works well with airsoft...

You can buy an airsoft pistol, holster and practice in a room with a sheet hung to stop the pellets...

Your shot time can really help you with presentation times...
The airsoft is plenty accurate inside the room in a garage...

Nothing but live fire will complete the package... no trainer provides real levels of recoil... the trigger press, rapid sight alignment and sight pictures can be improved with airsoft... the time keeps you honest and can help you improve your skills...

to answer your initial question, the laser target is great for a novice or first time shooter.... I think that is its best market... I would not buy nor recommend one unless you are an instructor getting it for students...

                              Different strokes, I guess.

I find a reactive target makes my dry-fire practice better. (No, I don't use Tannerite in the house!)
