      Good ol' Kajiro must have been drinking a lot of saki at lunch everyday when he was designing the Type 1 (at minute 1:06.)
      He put the shoulder thingy that goes up on the bottom of the mag.
      My guess is that it is used to load the magazine but it could be a monopod, too.
      Maybe if we all drink a bunch of saki we can figure it out.

        Type 100 is a neat gun but I'm surprised they did so well initially in WW2 consideringhow sucky many of their weapons were. Mosthe machine guns, tanks, handguns and more were bad designs. Actually the Arisaka is a good rifle but they lagged in designing a counter to the M1 Garand.

          Check out one of my post one WW2 Japanese Rifles. The Type 5 was a copy of the Garand.

              Yes I was aware of the Japanese Garand that's why I mentioned it. The Germans had same issue but were a little ahead in designing a counter. Also German tactical doctrine had the infantrymen supporting the mg not the other way around.
