Have any of you folks found one? When I talk to most of them they don't seem to understand the problems.

Sounds like he's looking for an optometrist who can help with bad shooting eyes.

I feel yah, having astigmatism sucks. Especially with red dots.

Wait until you get older and your eyes go bad. Then you'll understand the question.

Most optometrists have a stunned look when I tell them I need the glasses for shooting. They become speechless and act fearful - like I'm about to go postal.

They ask why I need wraparound polycarbonate sunglasses in grey, amber, and yellow with the ability to accept Rx inserts. They also don't understand that the upper left corner of the right eye lens needs to be ground properly since that's where I'll be looking 99% of the time (on a rifle). They don't understand weapons optics, iron sights, aiming, head position and cheek weld. I could go on and on.

It's an important question and I haven't found one that shoots yet.

Ahhhh. Thanks for catching me up. When I first went to optics (EOTech), I thought, "Man these things suck!!" The clarity was horrible. Then I put on my prescription glasses and realized what an idiot I am.

I was searching for the same thing but came up empty handed but I did find an optometrist in Costa Mesa that I really liked. I doubt she shoots but she took the time to answer all my questions and seemed really knowledgeable. Warning, her receptionist has an accent and I had a hard time understanding her over the phone but other than that, I was very pleased.

5-star eye care in Costa Mesa. Comprehensive exams, designer frames, OCT imaging. Serving Orange County 15 years.

I asked about this very subject at the optometrist last week, and he got a funny look on his face and then flat-out changed the subject. The only thing I could think of was that he feared some (preposterous) liability on his part in case I turn out to be a mass murderer who just needed to see a little better.

My optometrist doesn't shoot, but I explained my issue (can't focus on front sight) and he prescribed me some appropriate shooting glasses. They sort of work, better than nothing anyway.

They are basically a similar idea to computer glasses, designed to focus on a point about three or four feet in front of you.

Try Dr. Koyama in HB or FV. He's got family in the Navy or Marines.

Are you currently using vision correction for every day stuff?

Are you shooting rifle or pistol? The correction will be different, for each platform and eye issue that you have, since the script will be based on sight radius as well as the distance of what you are shooting at. Google hyperfocal distance . . .

In my case, I use service rifle for high power. I am also near sighted with astigmatism. It was pretty much trial and terror until I found the script and rear aperture combo that I can tolerate/manage. Notwithstanding, I still get the elevation issues on the target as it's not a perfect solution. I'm leaning towards a platform with a longer sight radius and a script that works with that sight radius.

PM me if you have additional questions . . .
