    Could it be this simple

i wasn't very happy with the black front sight on my Ruger GP100 and, being a 3" model, there aren't many compatible front sights to change out

a guy on another forum gave me a suggestion...take some rustoleum and dab a bit on and create a front sight for myself...my eyesight isn't the greatest, trying to line up a shot on a dark silhouette with a black sight doesn't help either

so, a quick solution to a little problem, maybe until i can find a compatible front sight for the .357...am i missing something here? maybe it will rub off in time but its not a long term solution anyway....unless i REALLY come to like it

here's a before and after...thoughts? the white sight ends right at the top of the black ramp, just as the head of the sight goes flat, so its actually at the very top of the sight

I did the same thing on an old 22 rifle. I believe I used a metallic red paint for the front sight, and 2 dots of neon green for the rear sights. Let it dry, and apply a dab of clear coat. It has lasted for almost 2 years now.

Yeah, customizing sights in the way you have is really that simple. Want more variety of colors to try? Model paint or even nail polish will work. If you want to get really fancy, tape off the bottom edge with masking tape and it'll look a little cleaner. If it does come off(and shouldn't unless you scrub it off with some solvent), it's dirt cheap to re-apply. No need to pay money for a replacement front sight if all you want to do is change the color.

          Clean and simple fix-looks good.
I wonder why Smith and Wesson can't seem to get their white dot paint to stick on their M&P line? Plenty of posts/threads about that happening here and over on the Smith & Wesson forums.
I've yet to read where a poster says their custom sight paint job has fallen off.

i did put some masking tape around the sight, some paint sneaked through anyway...my plan is to let it dry a bit then use a shaving razor to clean it up...either way at least i CAN see now against dark backgrounds

HD sells a two pack of Sharpie white paint markers for like $2. I keep one in my gunsmithing kit and one in my regular toolbox.

When qualifying for my CCW I always dab just a touch of white out to the front site, especially helps when they turn the lights down.

Halloween-orange nail polish on the front sight of revolvers works fantastic. $1 at walmart for all you will ever need in your life. If you don't like it, it will wipe off with acetone. If you accidentally remove it during cleaning, you have a whole bottle left.

Many revolvers used to have an orange coating on the back of the front sight post, and was cited by Massad Ayoob as one possible reason that revolver shooters tended to remember using their sights after comabt, and those using autoloaders tended not to remember using their sights (The bright sight allowed the user to index off the front sight at defensive handgun ranges without having to take the time to line up rear sights before firing, which was more instinctual...sort of like a primitive red-dot sight).

I do the same thing with the front sight posts on rifles as well. Works great.

I have been using nail polish on my front sights for about 20 years now, works great and never ending color choices.

I hit my P-64s with white crayon. I was doing a couple of the arsenal proofs and hit the front sight while I was at it.

Nothing wrong with a little red spot up front.

Testors model paint has been the ticket years.
(multi colors) and tuff stuff after it drys.
