Why do people cycle live rounds at home??

Has anyone here actually HAD an ND/AD due to cycling rounds? OR even witnessed one? Not counted rumors of 3rd party stories. I highly doubt it. Of course I'm talking about MODERN semi-auto pistols in good shape here.

Im so sick of the fear even gun owners have about there own firearms
we have people even on calguns that not only put there guns in there safe unloaded but the keep the ammo in another safe in another room

Stupid, or unsafe, usually both. Usually Darwin's laws prove true.

That said, for common bullet types I'll reload shot cases leaving the primer intact and seating the bullet the correct oal. I drill 2 holes through the side of the case at 90deg to each other...makes it impossible (if I look) to mistake the dummies from live ammo. For weird-arse bullets, I'll pull the bullets from factory ammo, fire the primers, reload w/ same bullets, etc. Brownells as what they call 'action proving dummy rounds' for most common calibers and bullet shapes. Safer if you're occasionally stupid
