    AOW Rem 870 questions

thinking i may want to go about making a AOW shotgun and as i understand the shotgun must never had a stock ... so looking at the "870 express pistol grip" and wanted to ask those more knowledgeable if this shotgun is ok for the conversion/tax stamp and if so if it should be drosed in any special way before i do a trust and apply for the stamp

Do you already have a gun trust setup?

      That's step 1.

not yet as i am planning a talk with the local Sheriff and see if he will just sign off (we have a gun friendly LEO in my area) to save the expense of the trust, if he says no then it will be trust time

my main concern is buying the new shotgun and what it should be dros as being a pistol grip only weapon and not a rifle

ETA planning a form 1 (200 buck tax stamp)

No such entry in the dros system as a pistol grip shotgun. It's just drosed as a shotgun like normal.

Buy the cheapest mossberg you can, I use the 500 cruisers. It just has to be one that never had a stock.

CLEO sign off will take about twice as long to process. You're looking at 9-12 months instead of 4 to 5 with a trust.

Eforms are coming back as fast as 30 days right now.

but AFAIK you can't do a "personal" eForm, it can only be an "entity" eForm (corp or trust) since you can't attach the passport photo, submit prints or the CLEO's signature.

Do you want an AOW or C&R SBS/SBR in CA?

I thought AOW shotguns were DROS'd as a SSE pistol? Please tell me I'm wrong.

right, if you are buying an already AOW'd firearm. Baboosh was talking about the host gun, which is still a long gun at the time of DROS.

Yes but they cannot be drosed to you until you are approved. Which means when SSE goes away January 1st there is no way to DROS you the AOW.

If you buy a host shotgun and file your form 1 under your trust you can build it yourself in about 45 days.

                        Dros host shotgun
Have attorney draw up trust, takes about 3-5 days max
File form 1 the day you pickup shotgun

My form 1s were approved in about 30 days.
