    AR15 Magazine holds 11

I bought a brand new AR mag a few weeks back and when I went shooting my friend said the thing held 11 rounds. The first thing I did was take it back to the store since I didn't want to be charged with a felony(?). The store was nice about it and took it back even though it was purchased over a month ago. I bought 2 magpul magazines instead.

Now I started thinking. I bought the magazine in good faith that it held 10 rounds.... during the first time shooting we found out it held 11. Now if I was caught with the thing and the park ranger would have made it a big problem what would have been the worst case scenario even though I had no clue how much it held (the package said it could hold 10)

It also makes me wonder what happens if one of my mags ever gets a worn out spring and I can fit 11 in the future.

All 3 of my M&P 9mm mags only hold 9 for example (even if I use a LuLa speed loader)

I know my question might seem to be a bit on the 'paranoid' side... but with all the laws being added i can't keep up anymore.

Nobody checks and nobody is going to check.

No felony for owning and possessing any magazines in California.

Certainly if you purposely bought, sold, imported or manufactured a magazine that held more than 10 rounds, you could be in trouble. But most likely any such magazine would be confiscated as a nuisance. (New law)

But, then again, nobody is checking. Magazine ownership is on the Honor System. Most trouble comes from our own big mouths.....haha...

You might get into trouble using the 11 rd magazine in a mag-locked non-RAW semi-auto rifle...

If you cram that 11th in it most likely will spread mag lips out altering the function of the mag and not letting it insert into the gun with bolt closed.

Pretty sure all glock 17/34 magazines fit 11 with the new follower.

If you need help with any stragglers, call a friend, because it's likely that they have a gun. America in particular have done exceptionally well taking care of the problem, as there are 1.12 guns for every 1 American citizen. So throw a rock, you'll probably hit a gun, pick up that gun, then shoot a zombie.

I've heard of mags doing this so that when fully loaded, there isn't as much pressure on the feed lips, making it easier for the bolt to strip a round out.

How hard is it to get the 11th in? Do you have to use considerable force? Or is it just like loading any other round?

The funny thing is, is that you committed no crime in unwittingly purchasing an 11 round magazine offered as a 10 rounder. But transferring to someone else knowing it holds 11 rounds...that part is the crime.

Politicians say that if you have 11 rounds you will feel sudden urge to kill children and kick puppies. Did you feel any different?

That's for pistols where only magazine capacity laws are in effect. With AR that is not a registered AW (RAW), the extra round is equivalent to a "feature" and makes a BB rifle into AW.

^^^ Won't trigger AW laws, just the magazine capacity laws.
