I'm interested in a Blackhawk level 2 SERPA holster but don't really want scratches on my gun. Would going with a leather holster be better or in general do the polymer holsters not scratch the gun (unless you put rocks or sand in them)? Is Blackhawk a good brand or is there something out there that is superior?

Will Polymer Holster Cause Scratches?

^ pretty much, especial in sandy zones. Scratches really aren't that common from either, but they will happen. Holster wear will happen with both, but it just makes the gun look better.NRA - Life Member

I have a Blackhawk for my P229 and it's a damn fine holster. I love it. Haven't had it long enough to see if it wears though. I think leather would wear worse.Originally posted by KestryllI want to be Princess Anastasia today because I feel prettyOriginally posted by QuarterBoreGunnerKes is really just an errand boyOriginally posted by KestryllI am NOT...anything other than a schmuck...Comment

Does a kydex holster cause scratches?
You freakin' bet it will. Go for a leather holster.

If you don't want scratches on your gun, then don't use a holster.
It's inevitable if you're going to holster it; the material won't matter, it'll happen. It's the "in and out" constant motion.
+1, if you need to holster it, don't worry about the finish. If you worry about the finish, don't holster it.

My Kimber Custom II has lots of holster wear from a kydex holster.
It looks great!
Holster wear is character. It shows that you actually use your gun. Buy another gun if you don't want holster wear, that way you can keep one all pretty. Please read the Calguns Wiki
Laws that forbid the carrying of arms...disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes...Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man.

I think that a leather or cordura type holster will show finish wear much faster and in a wider area of the firearm. I think the serpa holster is more finish friendly. As with any holster, wear is gonna happen.
think about a stainless model if finish is a concernsigpicComment

Heck, if you don't want scratches, don't take it out of the boxIf you don't want scratches on your gun, then don't use a holster.
