Noobie questions

Hi ,
I am new to guns and a few years ago purchased a sw .38 special. It is a nice little thing but I want to add to my collection and try out something different with a magazine this time. I was thinking of a Beretta. Can anyone recommend a nice Beretta to look for? I was also wondering if gun conventions are a cheaper way to purchasing a handgun. Thanks for the help!

Welcome to Calguns. By "gun conventions" did you mean gun shows? Gun shows usually don't offer much in the way of good deals, especially after you have paid for admission and parking.

I don't have any Beretta recommendations for you but I would suggest visiting a local gun store to see what feels good in your hands. You can then research the models that felt good to see if any meet your requirements.

Gun shows are a good place to get a look and feel of lots of different models.

After you feel a bunch in your hand, visit a local range and shoot some of models you tried. The most popular Beretta is probably the 92fs/M9.

The cheapest way to buy guns is usually online, shipped to a local dealer, and do the paperwork when the gun shows up. This of course varies, local dealers can sometimes beat online price. Recently the prices at gun shows have not been the best.

Were you thinking of a smaller handgun to easily carry, where legal ?
My GF has a 380 Beretta which is accurate, well made and has some desirable features, like a decocking provision .

Others have suggested the 92, which is a full sized pistol. Its good enough for the US military and many police forces .

I would recommend attending gun shows too. It's good place to see the " gun culture" and shop around .
Some gunshows are held on city, county or state property. When you pay parking and admission, you are furthering the 2 amendment by showing politicians there are financial rewards for allowing gun shows and gun sales.

Don't look for any gunshows on Los Angeles county property . Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsy led 2 democrat females in closing our shows .
